Been looking into upgrading from my grandfathers 84 Polaris ss440. Was told to look at the Yamaha vmax/srx 600/700 (love old triples) what are decent mileages, prices, problems, etc that they could have. Appreciate any info

usually, yamaha tripples are pretty good and not too problem prone if not abused badly. all of them need the w arm looked at in the rear suspension as it is prone to cracking especially when ridden hard.
try for sxr, viper or sleds made after 2000 as they are longer travel in the rear vs the sx and srx sleds unless modified to have the longer travel shocks.
try to get one with dual headlamp bulbs as that is the stronger ign system. nothing wrong really with the single bulb, just the other one has better lights.
check/replace the speedo bearing and idler wheels annually to prevent issues.
there are other things that pop up but from what i remeber, that covers most of the issues.
have fun shopping.
