I'm currently building a 77 Yamaha Exciter with a 74 GPX433 engine to race at Ditchbanger National. These engines are totally new to me as I've really only dealt with Yamahas fan cooled trail models. While building the engine I had a done some light porting, mostly cleaned up casting imperfections but I did mess with the exhaust and intake ports. The sled is now super hard to start and often requires a shot of gas into the carbs to get it fire up. Once its running its super lazy when its off the pipe. it seems like it struggling to burn the gas in the lower RPMs. Are these engines pretty finicky when it comes to porting?

Ive tried new CDI, stator, coils and a plethora of carb jets in the mikuni VM38's. Pretty much out of options, I'm worried that in the pursuit of power i turned my cylinders into paper weights, new poster here so any help would be very appreciated
