my 01 srx vs. 01 xcr 800 (with results)

At the beginning of this season i was able to be lucky enough to find a holdover 01 srx with 0 miles. I quickly put on a mbrp can, which sounds great. A buddy of mine with a 01 xcr 800 was talking trash so I bet him $20 that i would beat him with the srx. He has reeds and a clutch kit in his sled. With 350miles on the odometer I took the srx and lined up with him on the lake. We were even up to 50-60mph. Then the srx just started walking away. We went about 2000 feet and i was a good 5-6 sleds ahead by then. As soon as we stopped he started freaking out and doin the old "theres something wrong with my sled" he then started to try to take his powervalves or w/e poo calls them apart. I could do nothin but laugh. There was nothing wrong with his sled but it was funny to watch him try to make excuses. Yet another srx triumph.
 
LOL, you gotta expect those other guys to think something is wrong with their bigger displacement sleds when they get spanked by a little 700. :yam:
 
I actually had a chance to run a guy with that same sled 2 seasons ago. I showed up at our shop in Southern Minnesota where I keep my sled to find some guys running on our drag strip. I stood and watched as the guy with the XCR 800 kept pulling some 800XC's by a few lengths. Our strip is about 800-900' before you have to shutdown. I ended up pulling out the Viper as did my Dad and we lined up with all the Polaris's for 3-4 runs down the strip. My Dad was consistently out front(he weighs 35-40lbs. less than me) I was second by a couple lengths, then the XCR would always be about 2-3 lengths behind me and the XC's were back too far to count. Needless to say the kid with the XCR was ticked. The XC's had already been beat by us so they expected it again. The funny part was listening to one of the XC owners tell me beforehand how fast this XCR was implying that we were going to get beat. I think he was just as dissapointed as the XCR owner. Then something really funny happened. My brother- in- law showed up on his '98 XTC-P 700 V-Max. This sled had the factory 121" ,1.5" lug Camo track on it. It was formerly owned by my Dad. It always ran good and has an awesome holeshot in decent snowpack, which we had that day. I took the XTC out and smoked one of the XC800's. My Dad was standing in our shop looking out the window with the other remaining Poo riders and the Poo guys all were pissing and moaning. They had a really bad ,aweful day...LOL!!
 
A buddy of mine has a BONE stock 01 SRX and another friend has a new Fusion thats supposed to be working "pretty good",stock also.Anyone care to guess which one ends up at the finish line first?I have'nt seen this race mind you but the SRX handles the Fusion with apparent ease.Both sleds are stock,no clutch work or stingers,nothing other than studs.

I know the SRX real well and its always ran strong.The current owners brother inlaw bought it new before going to a Warrior and selling to him;I missed out on this sled by about 6 hours #$%&* .
 
Studs...

Are you guys studded ? If so, which studs and how many?
I've been getting killed out of the whole by my buddies F7 on hard pack. Neither of us are studded. I get a ton of track spin with my 1" Camo Predator. I do have the Pioneer Perf. shock upgrade in my 01 SRX. Does having the longer travel cause hookup problems?
I think I need to do some studding. ;)!

my srx has no studs and neither did the xcr. You can expect the f7 to get you out of the hole, but soon enough you should be right past him.
 
yes the long travel might hinder your holeshot a little bit, but definately get that thing studded. F7's are built to rocket from out of the hole, they have excellent weight transfer, a taller lugged track, and more power to weight. Gotta even up the playing field a little bit with some traction and transfer rods
 
My Dad and I both run 1.25" #9818 Camo tracks with no studs. The above XCR's and XC's I mentioned all run the same track as me. So that much was fair. If you run a 1", you'll need nails. Many of the F7's have that 1.375" lug track. They hook up really good with that track.

He owns a gas station in town that sell amsoil oil and lubricants, so he just gave me an amsoil turtle neck instead ;)!
 
Anyone thinking about studding, the camplast ice claw is another option. Three times for me on studs through my heat exchangers. I just put one on my viper. It is pretty amazing. I only have about 300 miles on it, but so far so good. Until I get my sled running better I won't know about pure acceleration, but braking, cornering, and handleling on ice it is pretty amazing. We run the river too, so a good test for it. The only question I have is how long it will last?
 
GUYS KEEP THOSE POWER VALVES CLEAN ON THOSE SRX,s AND HAVE FUN !! I HAVE NOT LOST YET TO A F-7 ON OUR 1/2 MILE AIR STRIP. I DID LOSE TOO A 1010 THUNDER CAT AND A 180 HORSE kit HTG XCR 800. THATS IT!! MY 02 SRX IS STOCK EXCEPT A CLUTCH KIT I MADE MYSELF AND IS UNSTUDDED BY THE WAY! 3:16 (tony)

What track are you running? I have an 02 srx with stock track (144 studs). Stil debating what track to upgrade to as most of my riding is on trails and racing on lakes with hard pack (not ice).

I have the stock dn-20 weights but also purchased 89A-10 weights, a 48-42 helix, and 2 different sec. springs which I have yet to try. Any experience with these weights?

I REALLY LOVE TO DRAG MY 02 IN THE LONG HAUL!! ITS REALLY AMAZEING HOW FAST THESE SLEDS WERE. I AM RUNNING THE STOCK .092 YAMAHA TRACK AND LOVE IT. WITH NO STUDS IT HOOKS LIKE A ROCKET. I DO KNOW THOSE WEIGHTS WORK REALLY GOOD IN A CLUTCH KIT I RECOMEND FOR THE (89a-10) 750 VMAX 4. I ALSO BELIEVE THE 8DN WEIGHTS WORK VERY NICE WITH THAT HELIX YOU HAVE FOR A ALL AROUND SET-UP, WITH THE GREEN SXr 700 SECONDARY SPRING AND THE YAMAHA W-W-W PRIMARY. 3:16 (tony)
