I am thinking about trying to get a phazer mt lite this summer, just to fool around with and play on. when did they make the mt lite and would it be any good on trail? just thinking the track wasnt huge so it may be a lot like a phazer warrior type thing. any downfalls of this sled? any reason to not get one and just stick with a regular phazer and strech it maybe? just playing with some ideas.... and I would probably be getting the original style, not the newer style, just for $$ reasons lol thanks

i would go with the new style, you could find one for under 2500 for sure. The proaction style has a MUCH better suspension, and is a lot more stable, and parts are easier to get, its easier to work on, etc. Everything is just a lot more modern on the newer ones. I would look for a 2000 or so. I think the '99 mountain lites were still in the old chassis. That would be a real fun sled to bomb around on.

want the older style as it will only be a foolin around on sled, and I have the viper for when I go riding. and I can get an older style one for like $1000 just going to be using it to mess around with at home (go to northern NH when I ride, have a house up there where the viper is) and when I ride up to a fire tower up north. it is a really crappy trail the is unable to be groomed and full of rocks and stuff, so scratches will happen and the pogos go through it better, less to hang up on stuff just some thoughts I was having about why I would get the old style

I have thought that it would be fun to have a Phazer Mountain Lite. It would probably ride pretty nice too, with the longer track.
I think you would be OK even on groomed trails, because the Mt Lite didnt really have tall lugs. Ive seen plenty of "real" mountain sleds on the trails around Minocqua, so I dont see why it wouldnt work.
I would go with the older, "pogo" ones myself. They dont have the suspension that the Phazer 500s had (ProAction chassis) but they are considerably lighter and as you said, you wont have trailing arms to get hung up on rocks and such.
I think it sounds like a fun project sled!

I hear that. Personally Id like to own a Phazer, a '76 SRX 440, '97 700 SX, 700 SRX (year doesnt matter), '04 SX Viper S, '05 RX-1, '05 RS Vector, '06 Apex GT and '06 Nytro (blue).
Also, Id like to own a Toyota Supra RZ, Toyota MR2 GT-S, Toyota Corolla Levin GT-S, Toyota Celica GT-FOUR, '78 Toyota Hilux 4x4, Toyota FJ-40, '85 Toyota 4Runner SR5 and the Toyota T-150 concept truck.
That would be a collection, but it aint gonna happen in this lifetime!
Honestly, Id be much happier to just have an '02 SX Viper and a '99 Toyota Tacoma Xtracab 4x4 with TRD Off-Road Package. All those toys are no fun when you are so strapped with payments that you can afford to go out and enjoy them!

Yeah, Yamahas and Toyotas are whats its all about for me. Never got into muscle cars. Im more into the *WHOOSH* of a turbo unspooling and the the high-rpm scream of a riceburner than the sound of a V8 with dual straightpipes.
Seriously though, I could be just as happy with one sled that I really like and a truck that is dependable. All those toys would be fun but can you imagine trying to decide on any given day which sled you are going to ride? You'd waste half the day just trying to decide. Nope, gimmie a stock Viper and a Toyota Tacoma and Id be happy.

my car is a civic, a 00 Si. 8000 rpm in a car is fun and an NSX would be a blast. learned to drive on a 79 vette, learned to shift on an 87 vette. both are still in the garage, dad has the problem of trying to decide which one I love the Si because it is super dependable, reliable and pretty fun to zip around in. not the fastest, but fun none the less. kinda like a yamaha....

Well, my first vehicle was an '85 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I loved that little truck, even though it rode like a lumber wagon and was slow. I then moved on to a '91 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6. Ive driven many Toyotas ranging from Tacomas to Tundras to Camrys to Corollas and I enjoyed them all.97vmaxxtc said:yikes whats with all the toyotas?
Its like 03viperguy said about his Civic, not fast but fun to drive and dependable. Granted, a riceburner wont always get you home first, but it will always get you home.
To me, having a vehicle that takes me where I wanna go without any funny random noises or any other kind of drama is far more important than how much time it takes it to go from 0-60 mph. For that, you cant beat a Toyota!

yea our 68 vette stingray is definately a good time to drive. The 66 mustang 302 with 370 h.p. is even better.

Phazer II With a 1 1/2 x 136 would be a blast to play on. We have a 94 Phazer II and a 92 Exciter II that don't go on trips anymore but when it snows at home I leave my piped sx and ride one of these. The Phazer has a .75 track with 144 studs (from a 98 700) , made a huge improvement. A lomg track would be great off trail. Makes me wish I'd kept my 84. This is a great time of year to pick one up a build all summer. Get a nice 92 or newer, don't buy a junker. A good pipe, sx or wiseco pistons and reeds and they really scream.

those old phaser a very light. helping someone who got stuck a few years back, ment to jerk the back end over so the track would be out of the hole, gave it a tug like it was my srx, and flung it about 120 degrees instead of the 30 I was planning on.
" A good pipe, sx or wiseco pistons and reeds and they really scream."
I asume this is relative to a stock one?
reminds me of the ebay ad I saw for an exciter 570
"for experince rider only, too much power"

Yamaha had performance pistons in the accessories catalog that have the intake port "window" wider at the top than stock. Called it a Phazer sx piston.
Wiseco has a similar cut.
Yes "scream" is a relitive term. HUBCITYSX

I picked up a 91 Phazer long track at an auction last spring, I changed the track to 1 1/8 X 136 mountain master, new shocks in the front, a set of skis off my 00 Mountain Max, and a good used skid plate off our parts forum.
The little Phazer just keeps rolling on and is a blast to ride any day. Just not as smooth riding as the newer ones.
