Well, this was the first season with the triples on my 02' Viper and so far they have been awesome! My Wife and I just got back from KI Sawyer (UP) last week and that was the real tester for the mods. Long pulls down the rail road grades were great with no heat issues even in the slow areas...no bog or over heat issues. We ran in temps from 0-30 degrees.
The area I was particularly impressed was the MPG's I was acheiving. Over 500 miles total for the trip, 800 for the year, and I averaged 115-130 miles per tank!!! No kidding....and before you jump into the "you must be light on the throttle, thing" I must say that is not the case. Although I wasn't racing, but we avg. 55-65 mph for much of the week. It was funny while the Poo's and Doo's were at 1/4 to 1/3 tank, Kel and I were usually perched across the street from the gas station, having a smoke break, cuz we were still at 3/4 tank. My Viper was doing almost as well as the Vector. So I'm trying to figure out why a bunch of piped Viper guys were so upset by their gas mileage. I currently have the Bender race pipes (3 pipes into 3 cans), opticool head gasket, Boyesen Rad Valve Reeds, and Bender Clutch kit with rear heat exchanger. Anyone have any input???
 
That is excellent gas mileage for a piped Viper ,i'm seeing nothing like that with mine.

Do you have the vent lines to the air box or just hanging like the SRX.
 
Sounds great! With all the problems that seem to go with piped Vipes it is comforting to hear some positive results. I don't have mileage figures on mine yet, but I've been running some pretty lousy conditions just to be able to ride. Can't say that I've had so much as a hicup yet. No cooling issues, no loading up, just miles of smiles. Funny thing is I have the same setup! Bender 3 into 3's, Opticool, rear exchanger, V Force reeds, Bender jetting and clutching. If yours is setup like mine then I would assume your vented into the airbox right? (modded venting and modded box per Bender)

I would say my mileage is pretty close, but I haven't really monitored it enough to say for sure. Either way, I won't give up those pipes for a few more MPG's! At least not until I go 4 stroke. Even then the Viper is going to stick around. ;)!
 
I run the same setup except for the reeds and i get 100mpg per tank MAX..where did you get your reeds , or did they come with the package deal ??? i have been trying to get better mileage must be the reeds????i i would bet im jetted lower than you , dont know what to think , i know i have more track with the 136 x 1 3/4 , but wow 120-140 per tank , i would have to see it to believe it ....man dont sell that sled .....you have what most want ... ;)!

The clutching you have coming will make a huge improvment in your gas milage ;)!
 
115 to 130 miles per 11.7 gallon tank equates to 9.83 to 11.1MPG. Are you figuring out your MPG and than calculating your tank mileage range? When does your gas warning light come on (at what mile mark?) And how many miles do you have b4 running empty?
I have a Hauck venum kit (CPR pipes) and I get from 7.5 to 10.2 MPG
 
Two weeks ago in the UP my son pulled 15-16 mpg consistenly all week long on my piped Viper. (It used to be his sled until he moved to Oklahoma). My brother got 20mpg on his Vector most of the week and I borrowed the wifes SX700 and got around 15 mpg.
Last year on one occasion in the UP I got 19.6 mpg and the next day over 18. I am triple piped and am using dually dial-a-jets with 150 mains for all. I'm using a peak performance head with the opticool gasket. Heel clickers in primary and a Lightning Pro roller secondary. Good set-up and it's great to have all the power but not have to pay at the pump. I could use better traction as I've still got the stock track with 192 studs. Also have maximum performance transfer rods. I'm thinking about a predator 1 inch with fresh studs and these have about 3,000 miles.
 
that predator one inch (9830) comes highly recommended from myself and many others on this site, it is a great track. Awesome traction and no loss in top end.
 
All you guys have great input. Sledboy - basically I just figured it this way...I rode 160 miles one day and used about 1 1/4 tanks gas...based on the odometer and how much gas filled at the pump. Over the three day trip I averaged about the same...am avg. of at least 115-120 range. I know it's not the most accurate, but it works well enough to give me the "comfy cozies" LOL. Although, I do need to adjust my oil consumption as I'm averaging around 200-215 before the light comes on...does that sound right? or is that alot? B2SO - I got the Reeds directly from Boyesen...around 300.00 but well worth the money. Tremendous throttle response throughout the entire power band and if there helping with gas mileage, more power to me..lol I bought the Boyesen v. V-force due to the Boyesen's are built, model specific..and are alum. not plastic, as well, Boyesen has been the name in "reeds" for 35+ years. It just took them a while to get in to the snowmobile game. For only 20.00 dollars more I went against the norm.

I forgot...I do have the vent lines hooked up...and the air box is modded, but instead of cutting the slits in it...I added the TPI adjustable valves (4) which is as much or more area then the recomended slits, but I can adjust them as well. I did take the shelf out...

I could never get 130 miles on the tank, maybe if I really really babied it. (But that would be no fun). The most I could get is about 115 miles. Light comes on at about 80-90 miles. I have Hauk pipes, the heads are modded for staggered jetting. I can't remember the jet sizes. I have actually calculated it several times by gallons/mile.
