SRX plugs vs. Viper spark plugs

SRX NGK ECS vs. Viper NGK ES.Why do these two machines call for different plugs? Every Yammi dealer I go to says I should not subsitute the ECS's in my srx and they are $7.50 a plug! thats crap! IF this is the case i'm trading for a viper that uses the cheaper plugs. I just don't understand how the same motor has to use a different plug. I read somewhere on this board the riders were using ES's in their SRX, but I don't think it's wise to use something different than what the manufacturer suggests. What logical reason makes this machine use this expensive of a plug?
 
ECS plugs

I don't know the reason but I use ECS in my 780 viper because I was told they are a better plug and less prone to detonation. Is this true? Anyone??

I switch to champion powersports plugs, way less fouling. before that, I ran ES's for a couple thousand miles. my sled was a dealer demo, it came with es plugs in it.
The ecs are probably less prone to detonation, but plenty of people run the es plugs without problems.

am I correct to say that the viper calls for the ES's or do they call for the ECS's?
 
viper + br9es srx + br9ecs the ecs are better for detonation protection , you should be able to find ecs for no more then $ 5.00 per plug , like said above dont buy plugs at the dealer or a gas station in the middle of the winter unless you have to ...
 
yes that is true, the ecs are more resistant to deto because the electrode is sucked up farther into the shell, and they cool quicker between fires. If you run premium fuel in your srx i dont really think you have too much to worry about. I know a lot of people that run es's and even regular fuel that haven't had a problem, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. For how often an srx fouls a plug i'll run the ecs, because if you start it right they will virtually never foul, and the extra insurance is worth it to me.

What is the horse power difference between the viper and SRX?
I rode my buddies vipers, one has an 02, and my other buddie has and 04 viper s. I didn't notice that my SRX had a HUGE difference in power, but maybe a little in the midrange. Also, I rode them on an off trail hilly area that had no straights. maybe if I were on the lake I would of noticed more of a difference.
 
in the staights a srx will pull on a STOCK viper big time .....

I don't beleive the srx will pull the viper until say 85 or 90. Up to that speed it seems like who ever gets the jump wins. I own the viper s cam2 rode. We have raced them. I would say viper will win 7 of 10 times up to 80. I could be wrong but to me traction (via set up) makes all the difference in the world. How many of you watched the guy next to you grab a handful of throttle and their track just spins and spins, I have beat more people by back pedaling the throttle until it starts to hook up. As far as anything other than straight line racing, riding ability plays a major role in what is considered to be fast. In my opion a good rider can ride a lesser sled and go just as fast as a poor rider on a fast sled. I spent years riding the lead sled (96 formula III). I had no problems keeping up with anyone. Although They could ride the next day, I couldn't get off the heating pad. LOL I do love the SRX wish I had one to play with but I would never trade my viper for one. JUst my 2 cents.
 
if they are both getting good traction the srx will take it off the line too. Of course its all a matter of traction, but with basically identical drivelines, the srx is going to be quicker and faster with 22-24 more horse if they are both hooked up

The viper motor is not the same motor. Compression is different, porting, plus only singe piped. I have two 700 SRX's and use ecs in both. I buy them for about $3.50-$3.75. I have had them in for two seasons, with no problems. They are better for detonation, disapate heat better. You run the srx hard and you will destroy the es plugs.
 
you really should run the ecs plugs for their added deto protection and better heat dissipation, but you can't say that running an srx hard will destroy the es plugs. Just taking a gamble if you don't use the ecs, may get deto on a long pull or under high load and POSSIBLY melt it down with the es. My cheap buddy ran the es in his srx for over 6,000 miles and never had an issue. It depends on so many factors.
 
OK a question for all. Would you recommend running the ec's in the viper as well? All stock, and if so what are the advantages? I have 8200+ on my 02 viper running the es plugs with no problems. I currently have over 4,000 miles on the current set of plugs (and belt and hyfax) that spans the last 2 seasons. Thanks for you're advice in advance!
 
i wouldn't run the ecs in the viper. Vipers with the lower compression don't have too much problem with deto at all, especially if they aren't piped. I dont even know if i will be running ecs in my srx's anymore if the ones that are in there now ever foul. I always run premium, so with the stock engine i'm not too worried about deto. If i get it ported and the head milled i will still run the ecs's though, because the compression will be going up.
