For those who have had the work done...does this mod trash the gas milage of the sled. I think this definetely sounds like the most bang for the buck and is the best choice for anyone who is looking for a little more.

No, out of the group of Polaris and artic cats I ride with, I'm consistantly the only 2-stroke that makes it home without refueling. I'm getting about 13 mpg on average with mrviper700's porting.

Wow, that's good gas mileage. Maybe I'll do some porting to my SRX. I can only get 88 octane gas in my small town, would this be ok for a ported SRX???

I believe that with the head mod, you are only supposed to run premium 92 or 93 octane. You'll have to ask mrviper700, but I'm pretty sure the 88 octane would not be good. 13mpg may be on the high side of what I get, but I know that I've never gotten less than 11mpg.

Ya, I figured that 88 octane wouldn't be enough.

I have a way to do porting for you and dont have to use a head mod for you guys who dont have good gas. Its only down a few hp without cutting the heads

MrViper, shouldn't you cut the squishband down to reduce detonation for low octane gas? pricey and/or a bastard to do, but you'd be able to bring the quench height down and ring out abit more VE
am I wrong?

no, you simply leave the head alone as yamaha designed it! There is a way around it (porting)for the guys with no good grade fuels. This applies to the 2000-02 heads, the 98-99 heads can be cut and still run lower grades of fuel as long as you know how much to do it.
