Hello everyone,
Went on the river today and of course my buddy with the new Arctic Cat F7 wanted to run them. I have an 02 SRX that is studded and has transfer rods, other then that it is stock. His is also studded and stock. Anyhow I pulled him out of the hole up to about 40 mph and he came by and got about a 4 sleds lengths ahead of me, I could maintain that until about 100mph when I started to pull up on him. He was looking back and saw me coming and backed off at 115mph. I think mine is just a little faster on the long runs as he said his was about topped out. I really could careless if I beat him, but he is the type of guy that is real competative and it means alot to him, drives him crazy to lose. So I need to know what I can do next to my sled to make it a little quicker without to much trouble.

I would say the cheapest/easiest thing you could do would be to shed some lbs off the sled. Hp is pretty close but HP-lbs the FC has the advantage. You will take him in the long run, but to beat him in the sprint you have to lighten up. Some things that will shed lbs would be: silencer, trailing arms, seat, radius rods
 
clutching

clutching would be way cheaper than lightweight parts and is the best bang for the buck with some clutching the srx really fly,look under the tech page or ask some one I have some set ups so does alot of others.
 
I haven't been working with sleds very long so this is all very new to me. I'm very good mechanically but just need some guidance. If someone could help me with a good clutch setup that would help alot. I ride mostly trails, lakes, and rivers.
 
My suggestion is 4.5 rivets in both holes, gwg spring secondary at 110 twist with 47/43 helix,pilot screws at 2 1/2 turns and mains 150, 150, 151.3 for stager and hold on,keep it turnning 84 to 8500
 
You wont beat him with clutch & jetting work, it will help (some). A lighter sled with the same HP will out sprint you everytime. You need to lose weight on that sled or find more HP. F7's are quick and accelerate fast because their HP/Weight ratio is the best in the bussiness. almost 4% better than a srx and 6% better than a viper. Shave 50lbs or add 12HP and youll get him. In any professional racing sport 1st priority is HP, 2nd is weight. Dont get me wrong, clutching makes a differance in a sleds performance but it doesnt make more HP. You are getting the hole shot on him already and you know doubt are reeling him in down track but he is beating you where it counts because he is getting there quicker not because he has more HP because he doesnt, its because he is not having to pull as much weight.
 
once you get your weight prob all worked out the best setup ive used is 8bu's with either a hauck orange spring and if you want higher engagement go with the dalton green/black which has the same finishing as the hauck........other than that kick some ass..........
 
I have a bender clutch kit new in the box for your sled.Last year I was getting killed by my friends xcr 800. I put the clutch kit in and by by xcr.
I got one kit as a gift so I have an extra.

All good advice above, but I would also advise sending an email to SRXRULES. He lives in Iowa, although he is laid up right now. He can make that sled fly. Of course, so can many others on here too.
