Media over hype?...your thoughts

As usual, when ever I'm not doing anything important, I'm reading a sled mag. Just got my new Snowtech and Amsnow and boy are they talking up the new Yammie's. Everywhere you look there's another article or blip talking about the new line up and 99% of the time it's all good. (I hope it's true) Now, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but I feel like Yamaha has a tremendous amount of pressure on them right now. I hope they aren't misleading in the new 149+ power output or how nimble they ride or the total weight. It just seems that even if they're a little off Yamaha will get slammed for not meeting everyone's expectations (relatively speaking). I get goose bumps thinking that a year from now Yamaha shocks us truthfully by under promissing and over delivering. That's how you knock people's socks off. Having said this, I truely believe in Yamaha and the new line up. :yam:
 
I don't know if you have rode any of the 4 strokes, but I can tell you the 05 RX-1 is very impressive - now if you add 10 more hp, fuel injection, and even better suspension, my guess is the 06's are going to be awesome - I want to buy one in the worst way, but I would like to ride one first - however, based on the 05 RX-1, I might buy one without riding!
 
Yes I have ridden 3 03 RX-1's and my wife has a Vector. All of which I've been very impressed with. My wife's Vector is a hit in every aspect. My concern isn't MY belief in the products, because I already believe, but the industry and consumers as a whole, will they be just as impressed. I left this topic really open as I'm just waiting for TYer's observations and opinions on Yamaha's marketing and how the media tends to put their spin on it (misleading). Do you think it will effect Yamaha down the road negatively??? How much do you think the mags say is advertising dollar influenced???The basis for my thread was from HCS as I saw a lot of responses to the new Yammie's as HYPE. One guy said that Yamaha is the king of preseason hype and they'll probably be fabricating wieght and HP and be a huge disappointment. It didn't take very long for the Rev to make it's mark in the industry. You may not like Doo's, but I think we all recognize that the Rev platform is solid and has truely revolutionized the way we looked at snowmobiling ergonomics. How long do you think It'll take the consumers, as a whole, to realize that what Yamaha has is a real performance/boodocker contender??? Do you think it'll smack them in the face with the 06's?? Do you think there will always be 4 stroke naysayers?

well, i believe yamaha has always put out a nice product,there innovations are incremental from yr.to yr.atleast in the past.the 06's models reminds me of 1997 when they came out with all new models in a way,i think y really is setting the standard for 4 strokes. lets face it there will always be critics,and they can say what they want.but when one of the 06's is sled of the year who will be laughing then.i have rode yammies most of my life,and i dont think really there is a bad sled being made today,they all have there bells and whistles,along with there share of problems.i am going to look at the so called godzilla sleds as you mentioned allvipedup tommorow.just remember what godzilla did as "he wade through the center of town" he destroyed everything!
 
Tom (MrSled) has a ton of seat time on the '06 sleds. I would put a lot more stock in his input than someone who rode for an hour or so, or sat on one at a show. Or especially anyone who is just speculating about them like me. I have only sat on them at the show.
 
HCS is a fun website but is populated with a lot of young and dumb Blair Morgan wannabes who just wanna talk shit. There are riders on all brands who'll only ride their brand no matter what. All indications are the protos are awesome. Let's hope the production sleds are at least nearly as good and hold up well like Yammys usually do. There are also a LOT of riders of other brands including REVS, on HCS, who have ridden the protos and have ordered Y this year. To me, that says it all. I want one!
 
The Cat guys can talk all they want. The tow rope in my trunk is for them. My buddies Cat's have been in the shop so many times it's pathetic. And they know it.
 
I'm a Cat guy, bought 2 F7's in a row... 2003 EFI and this year a SnoPro 2005. I love these sleds and it's too bad Cat didn't come out with something "more interesting" for 2006, other than the CrossFire. These sleds are like sling shots... or like a good ol' Cuda... pulls like crazy in a straight line, but not the best in tight turns. But as far as looks and graphics, they're ahead of the competition by a mile.

Anyway, the SnoPro is up for sale and I put a deposit on the new Apex GT... Finally a GREAT looking sled from Yamaha, and supposed to be amazing too!! How will I be able to wait until October ?!?!?!
 
I can promise you that those sleds are everything they advertise and more. Not one rider, including the doo riders I might add, came away from Colebrook saying that those machines and the power they had were down right scarey.

Heck, you guys knowing me, my comments were the same. I actually got paranoid at the power. It's amazing what Yamaha has done.
