vmax 500 owners please read.Have ??!

On our vmax 500 there is a huge hole in the front heat exchanger in front of track caused by a stud.We called two dealers and they said it does not even suppose to have one!!??We looked through all michro-phishe and could find nothing either,except the two running board coolers.Could you please take a look under your sled and see if is there and please post.The dealers said to bypass it,and that seems to be wrong to me-Why would it be there in the first place if not needed?Thanks for all replies :!: :?
 
My wifes 2000 SX500R has one as well as my Dads SX500R. They do not come stock with guards installed like my 2002 SX600R.
 
I too have a 99 500 and although the Yamaha service manual which I ordered/purchased from Yamaha has ABSOLUTELY no mention of a front heat exchanger, it does indeed exist....

I spent hours searching for reference to that exchanger and there is nothing written/ shown/........I honestly think it was inadvertently missed when publishing the manuals and fische.....

Don't bypass that exchanger because a parts man who likely knows little of the sleds he represents, tells you to do so......A knowlegeable Yamaha rep will know better and advise better....

Time to call the next closest dealer :(

Of course it's supposed to be there, needs it! Joe Parts Disherouter might have no clue, better go elsewhere. Good luck with that cooler, it's a big job to change it.
 
I don't know a thing about this but I seem to recall that the front heat exchanger is part of the bulkhead. Is this correct? I think Carl had his welded when his track was running a little too loose and took a bite out of it. If possible I think welding the exchanger is the least expensive option.
 
Welding works, my dad had to weld my mom's. They tried brazing it and that didn't work then they wire welded it(mig), tig would be your best bet.

Welding is definatly the frugal way. To replace the heat exchange you have to pull the motor.
