case and crank work (mrviper)

has anyone had their case ported? is it worth the money? is there anything else you can do to the case or crank to get some hp?

case porting will pick you up a couple horses, for trail sleds I rarely do it as it's ALOT of work, takes me a day or more to do.

as far as crank work, if you're planning on heavy mods, a true and weld is pretty much required, they where welded from the factory (or dealer if it's a 98 ), but it was just a little tack, not a proper one. and they wheren't usually trued in the process either.

ya, I open up the transfers as much as I can, boost port on the case side gets opened up some (clears more area for the stuffers) then I open up the cylinders and match them to the now bigger case ports.

on race motors there's more yet that gets done, but that kinda stuff impairs oil flow and as such isn't good for making a motor last.

you pretty much do it all just by eye and feel, and make everything match? The idea definately makes sense.

I have a template that I use for the 2d layout, made it up by going to within a certain distance of the bracing, so that it maintains most of it's strength, (on my own I use a megapower head brace just for peace of mind)

the 3rd dimension I try to kinda gauge with a vernier, but it's tough it usually ends up being an "eyeball" kinda thing
