I have been complaining for a while now about the poor top end on my 2003 MM 700. After figuring out the problem with my 98 MSRX (top end was only 140km/h) I could get it to go 180km/h simply by taking the foam out of the Bender Fresh Air kit I installed last season. The mid height windshield would create a vacuum and not allow air to be sucked into the dash. The machine would accelerate like crazy up until 140 kms then it was like hitting a brick wall. I can't believe a little foam thingy that seals the airbox from under the cab air would create a loss of 40km/h top end.
Anyway, this leads me to think about the Mountain Max. Top end is only 135-140km/hr. It has a factory fresh air kit with a different air box design than the SRX. When I get the chance I will take the windshield off to see if there is a difference in performance. A friend of mine has a stretched 97MM700 with a 144/2". It is geared and clutched the same, but leaves me sitting still (almost 100mph on gps). Take note that it does not have a fresh air kit...could it be???

If a 700mm is running at 100 mph with a 144X2" track the guy gets the award for tuner of the year!! I owned 3 700 mm,s. With pipes, porting, 9 tooth drivers & 1.25" track I could barely see 100 mph. I had a 97 700mm with a 141 & Bender pipes. Been der dun dat. You don,t & won,t get good top speed from a mountain machine! Been riding em since 97 is all states of tune. A 100 mph 700 mm with a 2" track ...ummm...ok

Turk, I don't doubt what you say...
My friend and his bro were just out on the weekend lake running and he took out his wife's SXR7 because his 02 MM is just too slow. He could barely stay in front of his bro's 97 stretched MM. He said he was going wide open forever and that pesky MM was right there. It was gps'd at 96 mph...(according to them) so take the 100mph as a figure of speech because this frikken thing screams for some reason. I remember when the machines were relatively new watching him race a 99 XC Polaris stretched to a 136 (which was a pretty fast machine for it's time) and the Yamaha won (major lake run). The MM at the time was a 136 before it was stretched to 144 with the 17 degree attack angle. BS or not....bottom line, this machine makes my 03 MM look absolutely stupid. Why???????????????? By the way, we/they aren't clutch tuners, it's just start it up and go...so the clutching is stock.

I don't know but... I guess your bud has a Camoplast 2 inch track, right? And you have the stock yokohama track? There might lie some of the difference. The 141 Yokohama is 6 pounds (rotating mass) heavier than the camoplast according to snowtech. Don't remember which issue..

My 00 MM 700 will top out at about 85mph, but it takes awhile to get there from 75-85. It has one layer headgasket removed, reed spacers, semi air box mod (1/2 the amount of holes) a Hartman clutch kit and helix. When I got the kit from Tom I told him I wanted better low end and to remove that dead spot after it hit abouut 75mph. It improved the low end and only slightly improved the top end pull. I think I would be hard pressed to see it get anywhere close to 100.

OK...I don't want to argue with anyone so don't take it the wrong way. Regardless if this guy's machine goes 80+mph, the thing is still fast. I had a chat with the boys last night and they were out again. Buddy with the SXR has a hard time shaking the 97MM on the lake. Yes the SXR is faster, but that 97MM is always right there. The 02 MM was waaaayyyyyyyy back of the pack (and it now has the Camoplast 2"/141) along with the older style RMK 700's.
The 97MM ended up blowing the track right in half at WOT and the machine skidded for a couple of hundred feet (with no brakes...just on the skid). The track was just installed in February.
