I have been complaining for a while now about the poor top end on my 2003 MM 700. After figuring out the problem with my 98 MSRX (top end was only 140km/h) I could get it to go 180km/h simply by taking the foam out of the Bender Fresh Air kit I installed last season. The mid height windshield would create a vacuum and not allow air to be sucked into the dash. The machine would accelerate like crazy up until 140 kms then it was like hitting a brick wall. I can't believe a little foam thingy that seals the airbox from under the cab air would create a loss of 40km/h top end.
Anyway, this leads me to think about the Mountain Max. Top end is only 135-140km/hr. It has a factory fresh air kit with a different air box design than the SRX. When I get the chance I will take the windshield off to see if there is a difference in performance. A friend of mine has a stretched 97MM700 with a 144/2". It is geared and clutched the same, but leaves me sitting still (almost 100mph on gps). Take note that it does not have a fresh air kit...could it be???
