how does an srx stack up against a vmax 4 in a race?

how about a stock srx vs. a max4 with quads?

just curious about em, 4x4 sled sounds cool!

Been der dun dat. If a guy has done his homework on the v-max 4 he can beat a SRX. With quads(PSI) it ain,t even close!!! I do this every weekend!

depends on porting man, but I've seen some pretty retarded numbers out of those motors.

IMO the VX4 was the most impressive sled engine yamaha ever built, second most impressive overall (after the YZR500 motor, that thing was openly retarded, nearly 200hp out of a 500!)

How hard are these sleds to setup with psi quads? Is the jetting pretty straight forward? Do they have a tendency to "burn down" or "cook" a cylinder when piped? I don't have much experience with these sleds.

I have over 10,000 miles of hard/fast trail riding with PSI quads on my 92' V4 with no issues at all.
I am running 135 mains with dial a jets set in the middle position, it's a tad rich but I like to play it safe.
The same goes for my 96' V4 I have over 5000 miles on PSI quads on this sled with no issues as well - and man these things sound mean!!!!

it still amazes me what those things can put out with a good set of quads, power is pretty sick.

is it possible to fit a max4 engine and quads in an srx chassis? thought i saw it done once before.

anything is possible if you have the will and the money to back your plans ;)! It would DEFINATELY take a lot of custom fabwork to get it in there though

The sound from those motors with quads is awesome. If you were riding in front or behind one when riding thats all you could hear. It was quit intimidating.

i had a pair of them. One was a 93 and the other a 94. both were stock. The 93 would run door to door with my friends 2000 srx doing a roll on a 20 and the 94 was pretty close to 100 and would start walking away.. they both rocked and were a lot of fun. had gyt long travel in both wich completely changed the sled. gas milage was about 11 to 12 average. they would still pull even rolling on to it a 100. I would have gone to an 800 but I wanted the better gas milage of the srx.

how you like the srx comparably? which one was better on the trail? I figure the srx, just from the easy to handle chassis. I always got tired trying to turn the 96 800 we had after a day of trail riding....arms were like rubber lol

I like them on the trail. rode nice. good in the bumps. mine handled well would honestly go where you point it. it did steer heavy compared to the srx but you didn't have to move the handle bars much and it was going where you wanted it. they never pushed. Always felt razor sharp. I have snow tracker on both my sled and they both push in a corner ( its the snow tracker) but even before I had put those on...the srx never felt as planted as the vmax 4. I haven't riden one since I sold mine and that was three years ago but I kinda miss it..sounded wicked cool and they were bullet proof. I nver rode an eight hundred but always wanted to try one. I think the 95 800's out of the box were around 152. and my 750's were about 142.

psi pipes suck you gotta go with the aeens witch me made 190hp with and if thats not enough you have to go with the hauck howlers which we made 221 with james

the 800 we had was a 96 and it was fun to ride. we never had any more than the stock rear suspension, it was harsh and had very little transfer, so it ALWAYS had a lot of weight on the skis lol. and there was a lot of weight to have it all on the skis ;)

changing the suspension made the sled completely different.. took a lot of the weight off the front making the entire sled feel lighter and was so different it was almost like buying a different sled.. The 97's must have been perfect coming this way right out of the factory

thats what I always thought too, I really would love to find a real nice shape 97 for a decent price (although I have NO $$$ to get it lol!!!)
