bigpopy2 said:psi pipes suck you gotta go with the aeens witch me made 190hp with and if thats not enough you have to go with the hauck howlers which we made 221 with james
Your the only person that I've ever heard of that didn't like the PSI pipes. So what other mods were there on the 221 hp motor?

sure is fun to race those V-4's with a good tuned srx, shows who really does their homework.
Hi !
I have a -96 800 vx4 Mountain Max. It´s a nose heavy, short travel monster with a very slippery stock 28mm track´. BUT, I LOVE IT!!! If triples sound good, this 4-cylinder one is the best metal music since the Iron Maiden`s "seventh son of a seventh son"... This sled might not be the lightest or the fastest, but it`s so sweet that I won`t be sellin it away , ever.
I´m going to change the track to a 38 mm lugged one ( Have a leftover track from my MountainLite ), replace all bearings etc. This is going trough on summer. Still have plenty of rinding to do for this winter.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AN LOCATE A LONG TRAVEL FOR IT. TRUST ME IS WAS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE TWO VMAX4 i HAD. i THINK YOU COULD PUT AND SRX SUSPENSION WITH VIPER SHOCKS AND RAIL EXTENSIONS. THE NON REVALVLED VIPER SHOCKS WOULD WORK WELL. THEY SHOULD CARRY THE WEIGHT BETTER. I HAD SUSPENSIONS FROM WRECKED 96XT'S AND THE ONLY TROUBLE WAS THE VALVING WAS TO SOFT SO IF YOU PUSHED THE SLED HARD IT WOULD BOTTOM OUT A LOT. EVEN A REGULAR SRX SUSPENSION WITH SRX SHOCK WOULD HELP. STOPS THE *** END WHIP THAT YOU CURRENT SUSPENSION HAS. IN 1998 OR 99 WHILE ON A TRIP IN QUEBEC i MET A GUY WHO HAD TWO 97 VMAX4'S (HIM AND HIS WIFE) HE HAD PUT DIAL A JETS ON IT. DROPED THE NEEDLE A CLIP AND CHANGED THE PILOTS AND DROPED THE DRIVE GEARS DWN. HE WAS AVERAGING 12 TO 17 MILES PER GALLON. I SAW THE PAPER HE WAS CARRYING THAT HAD HIS KILOMETERS AND LITERS AND AT THIS FUEL STOP WHERE WE WERE BUYING GAS HIS NUMBERS FOR LITERS TO KILOMETERS WORKED OUT TO BE LIKE 14 MPG..HE ALSON HAD CHANGED THE OIL AND WAS PULLING ABOUT 300 OUT OF A QUART. THAT SAME STOP MY 92 VMAX 4 WAS ONLY PULLING 11. I REMEMBER THAT BECAUSE I REALY WANTED A 97 BUT THOUGHT THEY WERE PIGS ON FUEL COMPARED TO THE 750'S. I HAVE HAD A 92, AND A 93 AND 94. THE 93 AND 94 i HAD AT THE SAME TIME. I'D KEEP IT IF i WAS YOU TOO. I THINK THEY ROCK! LOOKING BACK i THINK i HAVE SOMETHING LIKE 12 TO 14 THOUSAND MILES ON THAT STYLE SLED. ROCK ON!
sorry about the caps!
sorry about the caps!
I´ve thought about that suspension change. It has it up`s, but I really don`t ride my Vmax4 that hard on the moguls. Plus I like to keep it stock. BUT, if I come across good -97 or newer skid, I just might do it. Only trouble is that my Max has a 136 track... And finding a good, non bended skid is just plain luck.
AND THE CAPS IS JUST RIGHT FOR A SUCH A TOPIC ABOUT VX4. THEY STILL RULE!!

I see some amazing fuel mileage numbers in here for a Vmax-4. The best I ever got on the ones that I've owned is 6-8 mpg.

My uncle used to have a '92 and used to get 10-12mpg all day long.

I know how that sounded and expected that as a responce. It was my understanding that a stock 800 (meaning right of the dealer floor) was only good for about 8. My 750's would get about 10-12 and I'm certain because my two friends had 600xt's and they were always taking more gas than me. The last trip in canada before I sold both vmax4 I ran the 93 out of gas at 115 miles. I bought gas between l'tape quebec and st raymond. up in no mans land and tried to go through saint raymond without buying gas then to st anne and never made it. had to open my fuel bags and use them for the first time....but back to the 97 800's. he has also gone to an srx pilot wich was a 42.5 and had had some clutch work. Either way I didn't believe it either but the numbers didn't lie and we were both buying gas. The eight hundreds both had about 14 thousand kilometers on the clock. The guy was an executive at bell canada...who knows he might be a member! my cousin ben who is a member can back this story up. he was there on his exciterII. I'm certain that is was dial a jets...gears...needle dwn a clip...pilot change??? (starting to second guess the number of the jet...its been too long) and clutch work. I had the intensions of changing my 750 but never did it. didn't want to eat a motor. and dial a jet kits were $180 per sled.

Wow 42.5 pilots would be really lean, must have been running in mild conditions. Stock are 47.5, I've tried running 45's in my 750 but I didn't notice any big improvement in fuel economy.
I've owned Vmax-4's for about 9 years and still own a mildly modified 750. The best I've ever stretched out of a tank is about 80 miles.
