rear heat exchangers

hey out there , what a great season,too bad its over. the fat lady has sung.lol lol. anyway on a 2002 viper, is a rear heat exchanger a worth while addition .the snow conditons around here are getting quite poor and for the first time my overtemp lite went on.any imput would be appreciated thnks.

Yes it almost seems mandatory for the conditions I get to ride in. I ordered one up and will be adding that and fixing a pesky coolant leak at the same time. I got mine on Ebay for $115 shipped.

Definately a worthwhile upgrade. The vipers have a minimally sized cooling system from the factory, and any marginal conditions, or if you are towing someone or something, will easily set that light off. An srx rear exchanger takes care of that problem real quick.

Absolutely! Overheated several times the season before. Put one on this year and never overheated, even in low snow conditions.

thanks to all for the input,i'll be doin it this summer.my buddy with the doo will be happy too.seems i'm pullin him home a little too often .maybe he will put in a couple bucks for the upgrade lol lol. better yet maybe he will wakeup and buy a yamaha!!!

I paid $90.00 brand new including shipping yamaha factory heat exchanger on ebay. ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!!! Don't think about it, do it. NEVER HAVE A WORRY AGAIN. Rode on trails with next to no snow last weekend and had no problem, less snow than before i had it with temp light coming on.

You can still get the heat exchangers from Yamaha for the Viper for $60.00. Yamaha offered these early on in 2003 to help with overheating issues with the 02 Vipers. I started to have some issues with my light coming on in the 04 season for the first time and called my dealer and ask if I could still get the rear heat exchanger offer and he said yes. I just did this back in November so I know there still available.

same here. i just installed one in feb. on my viper- it was less than $60.00 at my local yammy dealer.

Yep- they are still available. I'm doing the same, as mine overheated on a 32 degree day even with plenty of snow on the trail. We were riding kinda slow, around 35-40 mph, but my SX600r never even thought about getting hot, even on a 45 degree day. I have to say I was kinda disappointed as this was the first trip out with this thing. Oh well, that's a good summer project.
