Gearing for more top end

Stock viper gears I'm wanting to get more top end out of her. Right now she tops out at 109, but I'm running a predator track and 192 studs which slowed it down quite a bit from stock I'm sure. (bought it like that so I have never had it stock)

Anyway to add some top end? I would like to get the dream o meter up from 109 to 120. I do have a set of SLP tripples that I'm debating on installing. Other then that will gearing get me there? The hole shot is so intense right now I can afford to give up a little of that for more top end. Thanks
 
i would say with stock pipe that if you are anywhere over 8400 rpms u are out of the powerband.....no experience with aftermarket pipes but i have heard alot of guys running the slp's on the ultimate viper......
 
I think stock the dream o meter hits between 113-118 so 122 is good. I would like to get to that and still have the quick part throttle response I like from 30mph up.
 
My uncles '03 viper stone-stock hit 122 on speedo as well, they are all a little different.
 
pretty much from what i know....but the spoken rpm is too high for stock pipe......totally out of the powerband.......

i wouldnt believe them unless it was aftermarket piped.... :ORC
 
it may not lose top end speed because it is revving so high as long as it is shifting almost all the way out, but it is DEFINATELY down on power up at that many r's with the stock pipe. If the clutches are still shifting almost all the way out though, it could be just as fast on top end. Thing is the clutches probably aren't shifting out all the way, so it isn't benefitting from the extra r's, it is just losing h.p.

It is basically how high the belt comes up in the primary. It can be check with a black magic marker. You make a line from the center of sheave out to the outer edge of the sheave, and then go make a wide open run on a hard packed surface. However much marker gets rubbed off is how far the clutches are shifting out. ;)!
 
the closer to the top the better, but yamaha clutches can not reach the top without some machining. They should come within about 3/16" from the top though if it is all set up correctly.
 
Kinger, Yamaholic. I hit similar marks on the dream meter. I can't remember exaactly it was either 124 or 126 and it was actually only 114 on the radar gun (Still awesome for a stock viper '03). Did you guys double check with a gun or GPS? A friend ran almost identical with his 04 RX1. I think he was reading 126 and pulled 114 on the gun as well. Interesting fact about the belt getting to only 3/16" from the top. Did not know that. I am over reving (from what I have heard a common thing on vipers) @ around 8800 - 8900. Would the belt be getting up any farther if i was over reving? Never checked that, will have to do that next year.
 
My 04 viper topped out at 117 on a snow covered lake,it was kinda warm out too(34 degrees)My rpm was also at 8900 rpm.How much weight should i add to the tip of the stock weight to get it down to 8400 rpm?
 
you will need to add around 2.5 grams to the tip to get the rpm's down from 8900 down into the power peak. You could also band aid the problem with a multi angle helix, but its not the correct fix. Get more weight in the tips.
