SRX 600 starts hard when cold

I have a 1999 SRX 600 that I bought over x-mas. I have had it out roughly 5 times and each time I have had a problem trying to get it started when it is cold. Sitting idle for more than 2 hours. Everytime I have had to drop some fuel into 1 or more cyclinders to get ti running. I put in new plugs, no help. It appear that the choke is not drawing any fuel into the cyclinder when choked. The choke appear to work when the engine is warm or idling. But when cold if I pull 15-20 times or I become winded, I can pull out the plugs and they are all dry. As if the choke was providing no extra help. I was going to try and check a choke adjustment. But anyone has had a similar issue of has learned to start one of this beast that has a similar problem please let me know. I have heard from many others that have this machines they all tend to start hard.

Sounds like your choke is not working .Here how you ajust it . You will have to make sure something is happening at the carbs when you put the choke on .

Wilson thanks for the help and document. I will try the adjustment today. And if it makes a difference you will find a post here. Still if anyone else out there has had hard starting issues that I maybe over looking please fill me in. THanks.

Wilson is the air box easy to get out, I would like to see into the carb with the choke on see if it is drawing fuel.

The air box is easy to get out ,but you must make sure the boots are on properly when you reinstall it that is the hard part . You should be able to see if the cable is moving the valves with out taking the box off . Is that a triple ? Mine is a twin ,I think its the same just one more carb .

I have a 98 SRX600 and I am having the same problem. The difference is my plugs are very wet and they look to have antifreeze on them. I have to take the airbox off and spray starting fluid in the carbs to get the sled to fire. I do not know if my head gaskets are bad or what the problem is.

To Jsmith ,does your antifreeze level go down in the tank from one ride to the next . If it does you may have a head gasket leak and if you do you had better get right after it .Tow strokes don't like burning antifreeze.It could just be oil .

The antifreeze level has went down very little after sitting since last winter, but yes it has went down. Do you think the antifreeze would be in all three cylinders?
