what to do?

I owned a 1993 Exciter 2 LE, it was a great sled and I loved the thing, but I had a lot of problems with it not running well, the engine seemed to be very finicky, and actually the local dealer refered to Exciters as "Exploders".

Pros of Exciter:
Light weight
better handling
good gas mileage

Pro of Vmax:
Able to have reverse
better reliablity
better performance
still able to find performance parts fairly easily for engine mods for Vmax

I have owned my 95 Vmax 600 since 2001, have not had one problem with the sled yet, it runs great every year, the rear suspension on it sucks but the Exciter rear suspension is no better. What is the reason you are looking to change sleds? One thing to consider is if the Exciter is an SX, if it is, I would buy the SX

Pro's of the Exciter II SX:
very rare
better front suspension
equal performance to Vmax 600
great looks
oh, and did I mention it is rare
 
i posted that while i was school so i didn't have much time say a lot. First i don't think its a sx .. but its looks very sharp .. its tricked out with yellow and has yellow bugie wheels , yellow grill inserts yellow plactics.... i will try to take a picture of it.. 2nd i need to know the vaule of our v-max perferbly in can dollars. i will post some pictures.. but the but the v-max is in good condition.. except for
i small crck about 1/4 in long on the side of the hood, a small dent on the front shock cover, and a rip in seatwhere it meets the lugage box thing.. its not a rip but the stitches fellout.. it doest look bad... and the rear back shock is blownen (sags),. the track is in fair condition. and its has all new bearings.
so whats what should we say for a selling price ? ps its has no reverse or elctric start

see the reason i wnat to get rid of the vamx is because.. the clucths need to be done and the track is going to go soon and it needs a new shock.. so thats all adds up to $$ when we could sell it.. for $2200 ( can) and buy a sledder a year younger with a new track skis.. etc for $1900
 
the vmax was basicly the point where yamaha turned around, they went from being "cheap japanese crap" (that had been intermittently fast) to being about quality and reliability.

the phazer saved them forsure, turned the industry around, but the Vmax was the sled that really defined yamaha as what they have grown to be today.

and ya.... I'd avoid the exploder, unless it's an SX, those are a pretty good machine, but they where really just the cookie thrown to the wolves, something to keep the press happy for 1 more year while they perfected the vmax. Viper was pretty much the same deal, parts bin solution to keep everybody happy for a couple years while they perfect the 4-strokes.
 
Read the 93 Exciter 570 post in the photo section. Also, depends on your ridding style if you like to play off trail or in the twisty trails Exciter all the way. If you're a sit back and cruise on groomed trails enyoy the senery guy then the Vmax is a better choice. B.T.W. the Exciter II'S have the same "Original Pro-Action Rear" that the 94-96 Vmax's have (except the 96 XT's). "cheap japanese crap" Oh yea, Ive owned a new 88 & 90 Exciter's and new 94 & 96 XT 600's and the Exciter's had better Fit and Finish hands down ! A well setup Exciter (not one that has been hacked) will give the 600's fits and be very reliable !
 
hey man, dont talk that way about vipers lol. There awesome sleds. If your saying its the same situation with the viper then how come they still produce them?
 
I have to agree with cuzino19, the viper is a great sled and NOT made from bin parts leftover. Thats like saying the RX1 was good but only for 3 years.
 
He is NOT saying the vipers aren't good sleds, he is just stating the fact that it is all parts that Yamaha already had, put together and released to keep the majority happy while they were working on the new material. The viper is exactly the same frame, suspensions, and engine as they already had around, just wrapped in a new shell. They made the srx engine into a single pipe model, gave it some aggressive porting and timing, and released as an "all new" engine. The new gauge pod was the only real "new" thing. At ease boys, junior wasn't saying the vipers are junk, just that they used existing technology to keep people happy while they were working on and testing the new tech.
 
so maybe i we won't buy the exciter.. (unless its a sx.. never asked). But we still want to sell the vmax.. so can some please tell me what a good selling price is
 
I've ridden both a 94 Vmax 600 and Owned a 93 Exciter SX. I loved my SX in the tight and twisty but preferred the Vmax on fast trails. The other thing to consider is that the SX is #@@!%@#$^% cold to ride, and that was my biggest beef with it. The Vmax is a very warm sled. I believe the Vmax was an inch or two wider ski stance than the SX and that the SX was wider than the regular Exciter. I also found that he Vmax handled the choppy stuff better but that could have been set-up. Hope this helped some. Sold my SX last year for 1700 Can. Had Aaen pipe, 2 season old track and 120 studs. Around 9000 KM.

exciter

My buddy had a 93 exciterII.He bought it new and sold it with aroung 5-6000 miles with never a problem.I probaly put on 1000 of those miles.I prfer the exciter over the vmax there way more fun.
