I have run plastic. Never again! Aluminum is the only way to go in my opinion. And Woody's have held up great for me

will aluminum make a considerable difference over steel backers weight-wise?

You can feel a big difference when holding a bag of steel vs aluminum plates. Put them on your track now it's rotating mass, which is estimated to be 10X more.

Guys, I have 4100 mile on my Viper 02 with 144 Fast Trac Stainless steel studs with round backers. Riden very hard and with lots of hard spin out of the corners riden in Northern, WI only. The studs have held up awesome, some lightly bent, some on the outer belts on worn down more from the side that hits th road or center of trail. Never ripped one, never broke a backer either. Stainless steel. Blew a track though, was able to remove them all, and reinstall them with the same nuts, backers and studs on a new track and then put another 1000 miles on them with out a problem.

I was told the stainless signature series stud were less expensive because it uses the stainless steel instead of the hardened steel. The manufacturing process to make the hardened steel studs versus usingn stainless steel is much more involved.
