Viper miles and issues

my 02 viper has 4600 miles, overheated 1 time put in rear heatexchanger and solved problem. other than that last ride of this year left hand warmer stopped working. It has been a little loose for a while hopefully just replace it and and good to go.
 
it was for sale until my dealer i ordered my apex gt from couldn't get me one. so i said the hell with it, bought a new truck and keeping my viper another year.

02 Viper 3500 miles (sold it Jan. 04)

Track replaced at 1100 miles (stock track to 1.25 predator) under warrenty
Overheating issue's
Hood issue's
Shock update (stiff ride)
Fuel pump issue's

Overall great sled, I miss it! Picked up a used SRX, better trail sled but off trail the viper is much better.

02' I love the sled and have no regrets but, I've had some issues.
- first ride - hood popping out and my right front shock comes loose (bolt fell out) pushes through belly pan and dents silencer - warranty - dealer extremely embarrassed and emplyee fired for being responsible for bolt falling out. This happened before service update for fuel pump and hood.
- 800 miles - speedo out - warranty - hood serviced
- 1000 miles - speedo out - warranty - hood issue still there
- 1500 miles - speedo out - warranty and fuel pump froze easy fix - hood issue
- 2500 miles - yes the speedo went out AGAIN! - warranty (entire gauge/cable and sensor replaced... - hood issue still there with extra straps
- 3000 miles something shorted out...hate to say it but, towed home by my wifes sxr600 in the middle of the black hills...30 miles...still had a blast. and hood issue. When it was in the shop they discovered it had low compression in the mag cylinder, the piston and rings were replaced - warranty
I now have 4500 miles and and no issues since the last. it looks like it was alot of stuff, but I never paid a cent and it was never in the shop for longer then a week. I only ride on the weekends anyway so it never really effected me. My hat is off for Yamaha standing behind everything, getting the parts to the dealer in a timely fashion and flippin the entire bill. ;)!
 
I have about 3000 miles on my 02. Had the fuel pump freeze on me...but i lifted it up and fixed it myself. The machine overheated once..but my faault(on iceno snow). The sled has been great. A little stiff ride at eh end of the day, but handles great on a groomed trail. Had another first year sled with Yammie, the srx in 98 and had little issues with that. Of all the sleds that come out with new models..I think Yammie has a more dependable track record. ;)!
 
yeah that is for sure, 1st year sleds for the big 3 always seem to have more problems. yamis only seem to be little minor things if any. look at the 03 rx1, i didn't hear of any issues with them.
 
I have about 3000 miles on my 02.
Recoil rope (almost broke), wear at the chain case. Fixed under warranty
Replaced some mics idler wheel bearings and drive axle bearing. Water intrusion causing some roughness. Probably could have ran them longer, but didn't want to chance a failure in the mountain's
The hood issue, had dealer do Yamaha's fix under warranty. Still does it, I use a heat gun and fold the lip of the belly pan in. Works for a while, then I have to heat it up and do it again. Kind of a PIA.
Had the shock update done, big improvement.
One hand grip came loose at the end, fixed under warranty.
No problem's with the motor, electric's, clutches, etc
No overheating issue's, untill this year in McCall. We were riding on VERY hard pack, with no loose snow. I put on a set of ice scratcher's while we were there, and that fixed the problem. Since then, I have installed a MM rear heat exchanger.
Overall I like the sled a lot. That's why I dicided to keep it for a while, and mod "er" up a little. Mostly I've been lightening it up. I already piped it, so I'm happy with the power. Went with light weight front end, Cat skid, lighter rotor, 136" 16" track, flowrite's, left hand throttle, bar riser's, etc. Pretty much customized it to fit me and my riding style.
 
I have an '03 ER with 3,950 miles, on my last ride this year had a burn down on the mag side, before that just had moisture problems inside the speedo and a bent radius rod.

sucks about the burn down...any mods done to it to encourage a burn down? or just bad luck, gas, etc? and where in NH? I am in alton ;)!
 
I own a 2002 with 6,100 miles on it. I bought this sled from my friend (org. owner) last year with 4,400 miles on the clock. This thing runs great. The only work that has been done to it is the shock update, hood fix, a couple of starter ropes, and has the hanging idle issue related to the fuel screw adjustment. As a matter of fact, the power valves and carbs have not been cleaned since 1,900 miles. It will still over take an F6 EFI on the lake at 90 mph.

Question, what is the W - arm?

w-arm is the front arm on the rear suspension. the front track shock is in the middle of the w-arm. hope this helps :)
 
Can anyone tell me where abouts the W-arm cracks? I looked mine over and I can't see anything.
 
at the welds mostly. the cross members are welded and tend to flex and flake off the paint prior to snapping. as before, hope this helps you out!
 
My Viper Worked Awsome!! i put about 4,100 Miles on it (Brand new 05) and than i decided to pipe it, Cltuch it, v-force3 Reeds, Holtzman Vari-flow.. Tried it once with all my Stuff on it .. Wokred awsome! i had a few Problams but thay were nothing and mostly my fault.. ahha i left it for a few hrs out side in a storm and when i got to it it wouldn't evan Try and Start.. i think the Fuel Pump froze but once i got it into a shed it worked great and never had the problam again!! the 1st time i got to try my pipes and everything was a disaster.. all the snow was melting and i took it to the mountins since you would want to try it after puttin some money into it.. so i went up a hill, but i hit a small rock and it pushed me over to the left so i couldn't stop on my way down... ****in Tree's.. i broke a bumper and that was the only thing i had ever done to my skidoo.. VERY Reliable. im still hopin it stilll is when i put a few more thousand mils on it with the stuff i got done to it. i hear some peoples were Really Tough wih it on and other with motors gone, so i guess i got to wait and see

no problem, and good luck! hopefully all is ok and no need to replace or weld. I always figured I would go with the strengthened W-arm that (I think...) maxximum performance sells. maybe it is pioneer performance or something... cant remember

The funny you mentioned the paint flaking. I washed her up good a week or ago. I had this the black paint flake all over my hands. I couldn't find where it came from. I assumed some where on the rear suspension. I must look closer. Thanks.
