Tip: Watch Carbide Prices!

A friend of mine works in the Machine Shop Supply business. He told me last night that carbide prices have just gone through the roof. Something they used to get for $62 is now well over $300! I'm just wondering if we're going to see a price increase in studs and wearbars because of this. You may want to get some new stuff a.s.a.p.

Man if they get anymore expensive we'll have to sell our sleds to so we have enough money to buy the carbides lol..........

i just weld my wear rods and then sharpen them on a grinding wheel every once in awhile. cheaper too!!!

thats not too bad of an idea. How long do they stay sharp though?

So you run just wearbars that are shap?

ya, just weld on enough and then take it over to the grinding wheel and put your edge on. you gotta be careful tho as to not get it too hot. stay pretty sharp for awhile for me, but then again i don't get much snow around here. i've never actually calculated the mileage.

its impossible to calculate mileage on a wearable item like that, too many variables

LOL I wear out a set a year atleast... Last year was a set and half on 1,900... Two years ago I went 3,000 miles on one set...

I use this data all the time in my profession and I haven't found many prices going down of late.
