from what the majority of ppl say on this site the R3 Lightning roller seems to be the best.

If it is the older unit It has been updated to the R3...same manufacterer(Advant-edge motorsports). You can pm me for more info on what angle & secondary spring to use for your particular sled. Been using that roller since 1999...kinda got em partially figured out.

How does a roller secondary work as oppose to normal clutch ?

what do you mean "how"? You mean how mechanically or how does it perform in comparison?

It works in the same way as you stock secondary but with alot less resistance allows your secondary to respond and back shift smoother and quicker
