2000 sxr600 SLP pipes tempa flow. Need to let pipes warm up ten minutes before riding or back fireing spudering ect. I fouled 6 plugs last weekend during warm up. New BR9ES plugs. Should I change the plugs to different a model? Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with my 97 vmax. I just took it into a mechanic and he knew what the problem was right away. The twins on yamaha's seem to collect the dust off of the belts into the carb intakes. He took the carbs off and cleaned them out. Before I had this done, my sled was running -very- rich. Now it's like I have a new sled.
no thermostat
the problem you are having is there is no thermostat on the triple 3-1 piped engines and if they are not warmed up enough they will back fire and spit and sputter. i have a 1998 sx700 and if i dont let it warm up it will backfire and pop untill it warms up the plugs you are using should be fine i have ran the for 6yrs without fouling one. but i only burp the choke when i start it cold but once she has been ran for a speel she starts an runs fine but also my sled is stock so take that into consideration too
hope this may help you out

warm up
I run a 700 with pipes, and have found it ate more plugs at warm up as well. Like the single pipe it is cold blooded, but now the problem is compounded. Let it warm up for a minute or two, but use ONLY the choke, and no throttle. If you hit the throttle--you better start rolling or it will load up in a minute. I suggest (depending on temp) let it warm up for a minute, and then start creeping it around like 10mph or so. If it bogs or spits--hit the choke (on then off) let it build some more heat and repeat. DO NOT get into it or you could cold seize or back fire to the point of damage. At the same time you can not let it just sit because it seems to load up for the amount of time it takes to heat in. lastly - dont punch it then let it idle--(take it down slow) other wise the full gas/oil wont hit the motor until you are back at idle (it has a delay based on gas line etc)
You will figure it out, but dont assume you are to rich and re jet, because that is probably not the case. (ceramic pipes will help a touch)

Re: warm up
Doesn't somebody make an aftermarket "oil injection" kit that injects oil into the intake like the older twins did. I thought Bender did that?

direct injection
Yes, Bender makes it, but I understand that some issues have come up depending on hose length etc. Either way, the bottom line is you need to let the pipes heat in, but it takes so long, and first thin in the AM they really load up.

I am having the exact same problem with my 98 SRX600. I will go thru 6 plugs every morning just to get the sled running. Once it is warm it is fine all day. Tried all the remedies mentioned but no difference. Do not know what to do with this issue but to stock alot of plugs.

I use BR9EYA's in both my sleds ... they're the V-groove version of the BR9ES and don't foul as easily.

Yea I use the BR9EYA plugs also, but it does not make any difference.

only use choke enough to keep it running. i let mine sit 5-10minutes (depending on how cold it is) ran the same plugs for 3 years now. LET THEM WARM UP!!!!!

03 sxr 600 ........i just full choke let it warm up 1 min ease to half then take it off choke and let idle for a good 5 mins er so or till throttle response then ride it till she cleans out ease the throttle when riding to get on it....then when you clean her out and hear that good yamaha hum your good to go i havent fouled any plugs and yes they seem to be cold blooded you just have to bear with them

try this- choke in full double back position when cold, pull cord till engine fires then quickly move choke to center position, let idle till throttle pull changes rpm then, move choke to off and finger throttle to hold r's @ 1500-2000 and let warm up..... works for me
