Slow speed track noise(chuk,chuk,chuk) i am baffled?

at very slow creeping speed i hear a chuk,chuk chuk sound from the track that doesnt sound normal the track is studded(120).i did find one of the front heat exchanger protecters rivet came out and the protector was cocked it is now fixed. the hyfax are old but still show some life in them.could it be a loose stud,the drive chain, loose track,to tight of track(7/8")deflection i have only notice this sound since i put in the pioneer perf. long travel kit. could it be the jackshaft bearing? ANY IDEAS I AM TOTALLY BAFFLED.going to check the track out tommorow?
 
Has a 99 sx 600 with similar noise, removed chaincase cover and clean and reinstall and noise went away. Hope this helps
 
i had the same problem the other day.... afer i went riding saturday everything was fine... then the next day went out riding again same noise your talking about ... it was so cold out that ice was building up inside my belly pan protector and hitting the track..... had me scared there... i also popped a rivet because the ice was getting so thick it pushed it out, but if really cold out ice will form lol :lol:
 
Change your belt and see if that takes care of it. If you spun the primary on the belt it will make a divit and will "chunk" every time the belt goes around. It will also sound like everything except for the belt when it's doing it.
 
I would also try the belt first, might save you alot of time, it is amazing what a new belt can do for a machine!
 
well, i know it is not ice because it makes this noise freshly thawed out which gets done quite often,i did suck few rocks up into the track which stopped me dead, in which i burned up one belt and put on another one which was not to far out of spec from new, but i am leaning toward,a stud or studs are loose or a track clip is bent and slapping against the rail?
 
check this

make sure hyfax front bolts are both there, and be sure your limiter straps haven't moved. Maxdlx

Check the front plastic pieces on the rails, if you bend one either way just a touch, it will hit every track drive nub, tick tick tick tick, don't ask how I know, just know that I know. Maxdlx
 
Maybe check idler wheels for a bent or chunk missing in them. how fast were you going when it stoped dead? Don't know because you just added another piece to the puzzle. I really never had that happen to me.
 
checked out the track tonight

i checked out the track tonight and found nothing wrong,with the wheels,rails,track clips etc. but one questions come to mind is the brake caliper suppose to have play in it! i took the belt off and thats as well look fine no flat spots of any kind. so i decided to spin the track by hand kinda moving it back and forth and i here a clunking noise but i think it was just the secondary play in it so i moved on to look at the brake side and notice some side to side play in the caliper,is this normal? oh and one more thing i pulled the secondary there doesnt seem to be any play in the jackshaft bearing,but when i inspected the secondary it appears to have hairline cracks on the back side of the sheave has anyone else seen this before.oh the cogs looked good to no wobble in them or signs of the spun on the shaft.
 
make sure the chain tensior is tight to spec. it may sound stupid but it happened to me on my way back down the track on the last run of the day when at the grass drags thank god it happended after i beat 800 polaris
