speedometer cable

well i broke a belt and the cable slit open and speedo stopped working. as far as it looks cable is fine and should function. i took the cable out of the tranny end and spun the key and the speedo works. but i tried to take it off the end the connects to the speedometer and it will not come out it is stuck in there good. i used cable lube and stuff but still wont budge. have any ideas? will a new cable fix this problem? is it something else? how can i get the cable out of the speedometer end?

figured out the problem, gave the speedo end a hard hard hard pull and it finnally came out. took off the housing at the driveshaft end and the gear is stripped right out. also the gear in the driveshaft. so now if anyone has what i need PM me. need housing and the gear in the driveshaft
