Carbon build up in manifolds

In the process of doing teardown to switch in Viper radius rods, steering rods and shocks and took off manifold to get more room to work and was surprised by the carbon build up in the mouth of the manifolds....looky here.........James

YUCK!!!! dude, WAY WAY rich, and WAY WAY too much oil going through there, pipes are prolly all gummed up also inside, that sucks man!
 
Funny thing is my 2000 SRX is jetted to the lean side, my plugs have always been golden and my powervales are not that bad after 1000km (each time i clean them).....i use Canadian Yamalube and have just over 8000kms on sled and it runs strong...............James
 
i think it looks pretty normal letting a sled warm up properly causes a lot of oil build up. in new liskerd it gets pretty cool sometimes scape it off and remove the little bumps were the flanges are welded on for a poor mans port job.knuckels look ok to.

and that isnt normal by any means
that looks to be atleast an 1/8th inch of carbon buildup
i just pulled ine off for the first time with 36xx miles on it, and there isnt hardly andy carbon buildup
 
Ya it can get cold and i usually go through a 5 to 10 min warmup routine and have never fouled a plug, the pic might show more than there really is, anyway i will clean them up when i do the powervales tomorrow.........James
 
it is a little built up from oil, but it isn't anything abnormal. How many miles you get from a quart of oil?
 
Good question? Last time i did test was winter of 2004 on a 1100KM (690miles)trip up to Hearst, actually went the whole trip on the same full tank of oil, added a quart near the end just for piece of mind. If i am not mistaken (but will check tonight) i run the oil cable at 20 or 21 mm...........James
