I have a 1997 700 SX that is in great condition. I purchased it in 1999 with 1400 miles on it. I only have 2800 mile on it now.
I started it up this year and road it around for an hour or so before putting it on the trailor and heading 4 hours upnorth. When I went to ride it, I started it up and let it idle and then it just died. I tried everything to get it running with no luck. After hours of wrenching on it, I determined with a volt meter that the spark was very very weak. After bypassing the ignition, kill, and TORS with no success, I decided to give up.
I dropped it off at a local shop because I knew that I did not have the time to work on it and the season was already half over.
I got a call yesterday and the shop is telling me that my Stator is bad. I was praying that it was going to be a short or some other cheap fix... NO SUCH LUCK.
The guy said that not only is the Stator bad, but by the looks of the hacked up screws holding it in, it has been replaced before.
2800 miles and (2) faulty stators??????
What gives? Does anyone have any insight?
THANKS
