piped viper s ....help with jetting.

hey there...i am new to this site...but being a yamaha man all my life....i am stuck. i have a 2004 viper s and i piped it with hauck snake bite kit.
i put in recomened jets...but dcs flashes at 8500 rpm. installed jets are 150. i live in eastern ontario...and i think we are sea level. i think i am gonna try 153.6 . i never had this happen to me on my srx. by the way...what do yous think of yamaha bringing out a machine that cant be studded. this is the first one i ever had thats not studded.....we will see how it handles.....once i figure out the jetting. any info is appreciated..thanks

Ok, first read snow tsch dec 2003 pg 36

Then verify you have all the right stuff from hauck/cpr

Then look into dcs--this is a great feature, but I understand than several folks have had issues with them on the srx because they are overly sensitive

i called hauck today...they said the jetting is set for 10 degrees above..
running at sea level makes me think i should go up a couple sizes
the tech man wasnt in...supose to call me tomorrow. he should hopefully know jetting for sealevel.
 
I believe Hauck wants you to unhook the breather lines from the air box and let them hang under the carbs. If you left them on the air box it will be really lean. I have read on this site that those pipes are made for Hauck by CPR and he has a completely different idea on how it should be jetted with the vent lines left on the airbox.
 
I'm running an 04 Viper with CPR/Hauck pipes. It will run with the vent line unhooked and 152.5 mains 50 pilots with the light staying off .... BUT....you will get destroyed by a Viper with the CPR pipes and the vent line attached to the air box and 165 mains. The sled just doesn't make the power with the vent line hooked. Problem is to run the line hooked up you need to unhook and over ride the DCS or it is on constantly. I've tried both and chose to go without DCS and leave the vent plugged in. It's about 6 sled lengths difference in 2000'. I'll risk a piston for the kind of performance difference.

Matt is this what you have found or what someone has told you?
How can you get destroyed by a Viper with CPR pipes w/the vent line attached to the A/B & 165 mains but still say the sled just doesn't make power with the vent line hooked?

I dont think any brand piped Vipers will run good with 165 mains......
 
Jetting

I don't have experience with the DCS but have heard of issues w/ pipes - don't know why. I can tell you I have an '02 w/ CPR pipes and I have logged 2000 trouble free miles and it flies. I have a Tempaflow on mine and I'm at 165, 165, 167.5; 3.5, 4, 4; 45, 45, 47.5; fuel screws all 2 1/4 turns out. I've ridden from + 30F down to -30 F with this setup and it is excellent. EGTs are consistent. The only addition I need is remote fuel screw adjusters as the Tempaflow doesn't affect the pilot circuit much and at cold temps (-10 F or colder) it needs a little more fuel in the low mid range. To compensate I end up going 1/8 turn richer but the remote fuel screws would be the real answer. At any rate, I'd bypass the DCS if you can't get it to work. I'd really be interested to hear what Jeff has to say about the DCS issue as it doesn't make sense - I'll guarantee you're not detonating when it's going off.
 
Bushman look again. I said it makes no power with the vent line UNhooked. I've tried both ways this week. Much more power with the vent line connected to the air box. However with the line connected the DCS will not stay off. i chose the more power and unhooked the DCS. I run 165 mains because it's been -10 to -25 her for the past month.

Setup

I have vent lines connected and Tempaflow vented inside the box. Tempaflow body is mounted under the airbox shelf. You can still use the stock vent hole in the airbox if you remove the black rubber grommet & run your Tempaflow tubing through it. I have the Tempaflow body centered between the PTO & CTR tubes coming down from the shelf. With the jetting I mentioned above I run hottest EGTs at about 6500 rpm at 50 mph (around 1250 - 1300 deg). A little more throttle brings them down to about 1200 and WOT is 1250 (1300 if I hold it for a while). This setup w/ HH's pulls my buddy's '01 SRX pretty handily and he's got the fastest one in this neck of the woods.
