MP3 Player While Riding???

Does anyone listen to music while riding? I've thought about it for quite some time. What MP3 do you use? How do you mount the earphones? My wife has a sandisk with the small ear pieces. They press against my ears with my helment on and it's uncomfortable for a short amount of time let alone hours on end.

make something... cut out the pad in your helmet and put it under the stretchy stuff..not the small ear peice ones of course. they make bigger ones that dont have the big plastic thing that goes over your head. get a pair of them and they are pretty loud so you should be able to hear it fine. this is just an idea tho ive never tried it. also i have a memorex mp3 with 128 MB internal memory and i can fit 24 songs i believe. and its really small

I have tried the same thing and my ears get sore just like you said. I really think you would have to find some speakers that mount in the helmet. I don't think there is any headphone that will be comfortable for a long time in your ear. What do the communicators use? They must have this figured out...

Communicators use a small speaker that fits in the ear piece of most helmets. My wifes hjc helmet even has little pockets for the speaker to slide into. My HJC motocross helmet they velcro into the ear pocket and my KBC fullface has removable pieces in the ear pocket that pull out and speaker velcros in. I believe the Collett communicators use a sony microblaster speaker. I know the speakers are available from Collett communications.

Last summer I took a pair of headphone speakers and glued them into the foam padding. Spent some time at it to make sure placement was correct and then recovered them with the cheek pad material. Then took some neoprene and made a small pouch on the outside of the helmet to house the MP3 player. I did that after riding with the MP3 player in my top jacket pocket and having the speaker wire dangling. Mounting the player outside and on the helmet looked goofy, but I did not like the wire under my clothing and dangling form my neck.
Like everything else, dont skimp on the speakers!!!!!!
Did this for when I had my little FZR600 crotch rocket

You can plug you MP3 right into the collett 900.

I wonder how the battery life on the MP3 will be out in the cold as opposed to in your jacket?

I do this...

It works great. Plug my MP3 player/phone (treo 650) into my Collett Communicator. Sounds great, and if the phone rings I can hear it ring and answer the phone. Of course, I hate it when work calls and I am riding, but that is another story....

You could buy just the speakers from Collett, I think most helmets have the pockets at the ears for installing the speakers.

I just stick my CD player (old news, lol), in my chest jacket pocket and run the little ear phones that fit into your ear and boom i'm listening to music. I love listening to Yamaha's screme, but a little Boston, 50, and Toby is good for the soul too.

Small ear bud head phones and an mp3 player inside your coat. Works great!

I use a Moto-Comm headset with a 2 way radio and an ipod shuffle. Once you have music and commo on your sled you'll almost never ride without it. The headet has thin speakers that mount into your helmet with velcro. I permanently mounted the cord stalk and microphone boom inside the bottom of my helmet using a clear plastic cable holder and epoxy. The music automatically mutes when someone is communicating to you and there is a mute button if you just need silence. I have a PTT button mounted on my left handle bar. If I don't use my FRS or mp3 the stalk just tucks inside the breath deflector and I cannot tell its there.
