Want to update my electrical system

I have a 2000 SXr 700 with the old style single light. I want to update it to the newer dual bulb system.
I realize that I need to update the electrical system, but what exactly would I have to change? I have an idea, but after looking into it I'm not 100% sure.

Is it even worth it?

change the headlight to a Xenon high wattage bulb and the LED tail light.
This will be very bright and you will not require any electrical upgrades.
The Xenon will make all the difference in the world.

Thanks for the idea about the bulb, but I'm still interested in updating the electrical system.

Could I get away with just changing the cdi,wiring harness,igntion switch and the voltage regulator? And of course the headlight assembly.
 
you will still me limited to the output of the stator.
my SXR 700 with the Xenon, visor plug, hand and thumb warmers and standard ignition is very close to the maximum current capability of the stator.

Its not worth the money, would be cheaper to sell your sled and buy one. You need the stator,wiring harness,guage pod,headlight shell,cdi box,dash for warmer controls, warmer controls, grips. these parts are insane money new from yamaha, unless you find a wrecked sled to get all this from.
 
The only feasible way to do it is to find a wrecked one with the newer parts. You need all the parts that mrviper700 mentioned.
 
Lets say I replaced everything but the stator. What kind of light output would I get at speed?

How much output is there with the old system, and how much is required for the new system?

Would it just be dim at idle or even at speed?

Just wondering because the stator will be hard to find used.

Would the electricals be the same on a 2000 and newerSRX as they are on the 2001 SXr?
 
The old system was 175W and the new is 300W, except for the RX1 which is 450W. Depending on your particular sled and how the load control relay works, you may diminish power to the coils if you use too much power elsewhere. I would expect that there would be other problems as well.
