I am wondering why there is so much discussion on track extensions. Why buy a standard sled then stretch the track when mountain sleds are available. I don't get why anyone would sacrifice turning capability when a lot of the trails have more turns than straight runs. Someone tell me I'm wrong here. The longer the track, the less turning radius... F-7, longer sled,, cant keep up with viper in corners. Stretch the viper track and you level the playing field. Am I wrong??? What am I missing here?
 
Ogre, I stretched my viper wit full length rails and all MSRX components. With the stock skis it would not turn as well as stock. I changed to 7" C@A Pros with Bergstrom Triple 8" carbides and it turns BETTER than stock. I am 6'3" and a svelte 280 lbs. I stretched my sled for better ride, and flotation. Achieved BOTH with BETTER performance. More traction at takeoff, better bite in the turns. I ride the U.P., trails and boondockin, and Tomahawk Wi. Mr. Sled can attest to how tight the trails are there! He regularly rides there with Larry from North Country Yamaha. I have given up NOTHING in handling, and Gained a HUGE improvement in ride and flotation. If you haven't ridden a 136 or 141 you will be surprised. These are MY opinions and speak only of my experience. Others may disagree, but I KNOW my sled is better than stock.

Yea 136's really are a blast to ride. I was a little skeptical about the cornering ability as well until i rode the '97 SX that i used to have, which was a shorty when i sold it but now is a 136. It rode much better, had WAY more traction, and still could be kicked around with minimal effort. My next will most likely be a 136 ;)!
 
1 reason people are stretching short tracks instead of buying mountain sleds is because they may have alot of money already in their shorty. Why sell the shorty and then go out and buy a sled with a longer track when you can just stretch your shorty and still have YOUR sled and all the aftermarket stuff that's already on it. Anymore 136's and are handling just as good as 121's and plus you get the added traction. It's a win-win situation. It wouldn't surprise me if 121's are slowly phased out by 136" and 141's.
 
Mountain sleds are set up for mountains, not trails. I think it would be much cheaper to stretch a trail sled than make a mountain sled great on the trails...

In some cases true, but not the way I am doing it. I am switching tunnels on a Viper shorty to a Mtn Viper, which is a pretty significant job. It would have been way easier to switch the steering on a Mtn Viper. Yamaha doesn't build a 144 Mtn sled now except for the Mtn Viper. If they offered a 144 Pro Mountain skid in a 4 stroke sled, it would have great potential as a cross country sled. Maybe 144 x 16 x 1.5 or 1.75 . . .

I would jump on that in a heartbeat Ding!!! I really like the 4-stroke but an Attak might not do what I want. I lay in bed this morning at 3 thinkin' about trail riding an Apex Mountain!!! I would love havin one but I think it would be to narrowly focused for me to own. Can't afford both an Attak and a Mountain. A 144 would be perfect for me! I hope they are watching and realizing the market that Polaris and others capture with there tweener models.

I don’t ride trails much mostly cross country and ditches so handling wasn’t that important to me but traction is that’s why I went with the 136”…..but after converting I found a extra bonus the ride is way!!! better than stock, It’s worth converting for that alone.
