Clean my cylinders.

I have never used acid. I had mine off and used simple green with a small brass bristled brush. It was easy and they look like brand new. Might be a cheaper way out.
 
yea...the key is the wire brush.. I have also sandblasted a set in the past and they turn out great....like anything sandblasted.. I just taped the cylinder wall with masking tape before I started.
 
I use oven cleaner to remove the carbon in the exhaust ports. becareful not to get oven cleaner on any polished surface's, as it will tarnish to shinny finish.
Also for general clean up, wait for the wife to go to work, then run them through the dish washer. Tech tip: dont try and run them with full load of dishes, and run the dish washer through one cleaning cycle empty, before the wife get's home!
 
Well my cylinders are just full of oil and carbon and i was thinking acid... Can i just put them all into the bath? I was also thinking a solvent with a tooth brush?
 
Acid is usaully used to remove scuffed piston aluminum that has transfered to the bore. (like when you squeak a piston) Solvent should work fine. I am serious about the oven cleaner trick though. Just remove the oil residue with solvent, (or dish/parts washer). Then spray the oven cleaner in the exhaust ports. Let it set and soft'n up the carbon, so it comes off easier. Spray on gasket remover works well on carbon also. Let the chemical's do the work, so you dont have to!
 
also try using ring free when it is running. may work if you just use it as a solvent as the engine sits now too. worth a shot
