Just pick up a barn fresh '92 Exciter II. I cleaned the carbs put in fresh gas and it fired right up. It ran ok for about a minute (up to 7k rpm) and then started to bog as I gave more gas and backfired a couple of times then it died. I pulled the plugs and they were black and wet. Does this mean i'm just too rich or is there something else I should look into? Also anybody know the size of the Mikuni? The sled didn't come with a manual. I'd be greatful for any help. Thanks.

is the airbox free of debris? might be getting suffocated?? pics of the barn fresh exciter!

I would just go through the entire sled and clean everything. There could be ANYTHING anywhere in that sled. Is there garbage at the bottom of the tank you may be getting through a crappy filter. Are the carbs filthy, bad wires, bad coil. I had to replace a coil and wires once and the sled ran fine afterwards. It could be a number of things. Like I said, I would just go through the sled one piece at a time. That's part of the fun anyways, I think.

Check everything mentioned. Also check the vent tubes on the carbs, make sure they arent plugged.
