wtb clutch kit sxr 500

i need someone to sell me a clutch setup to help my sled.

heres the story.

at the beginning of last season the mods commenced on my 2001 sxr 500. installed rear cooler from srx. put on viper skis and sucked up front limiters 1/2" to compensate. put on new (to me anyway) camoplast ripsaw with new slider plastic. there wher other mods attemped or done but these are pertinant to the problem. tried to install engine torque limiter. found out i need to do c to c and off set on motor 1st cause it dont fit. clutching was fine with stock track. with the ripsaw if i had 2" of powder it was fine. if there was no fresh snow it would burn the belt if i had to stop for a road crossing. track has 2" of droop when rear of sled is raised with no ratcheting from the stock drivers or rubbing. finished the season with 4 burnt belts and decided it was time to put clutch kit into it. i always try to get stuff for sleds during spring/summer so when it time to do it all the parts are there.

called advantage in april wanting to order all parts for vmjhon set-up from the tec pages modified to aftermarket as possible/nessasary with the possibility of a roller secondary kit with helix included. waited till agust to contact him again. it has been 3 weeks since i called and still no call back.

sled does traill runnin with some powder carvin/jumpin/driftbustin but more trail. i weight 220lbs without gear and really like this sled inhandling terms. highest speed it has ever achived with ripsaw/mods and totally stock is 80mph.

tried e-mailing ulmer racing and the speed shop but my hotmail isnt working with outlook express (says i need to up grade to the pay one.....not gonna happen).

as my brother has volunteered to pre-season my sleds and install all performance parts i have/get for it before the season starts (thanks bro) im gonna need this stuff asap.

what i would like to purchase is a centre to centre tool for my sled as well as a primary clutch kit along the lines of jhons in the tec pages. id prefer a roller setup that would work well in this setup for the secondary but will settle for rollerless if i have to.

email your responses to maim1974@hotmail.com attention Cameron or pm me in here as i check in here every week-day night. i work from 3:30 pm-12:00am every night so there not much point in me calling as i am usually waaayyy to busy to call when i at work and it huntin season so i wont be home weekends.

everyones help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. ty fellow ty'ers. :rocks:

PM vmax John on this website. I steered him in the right direction for a 500 twin Yammie & he fine tuned it from there.

What belts are you running?
What's your engagement, and how does the belt ride in the sheaves?
To me, it sounds like no clutch set up is going to help your problem, you must have a wear issue in the clutches. I had to rebuild mine at 4700 miles, triples go longer it seems.

My set up sounds great for you, but you need to iron out your belt and shifting issues before dumping money toward goodies.

BTw, I saw 103mph with a camo 1"er on the speedo...I was a little lighter then!hehe
For parts, www.ronnies.com and look at the factory microfiche.
I'd pull the springs out of your clutches, and see if they're binding up, by moving them by hand. I'm willing to bet you've got roller damage in the primary, grooved weights, and some general binding in the secondary.

Good luck!

belt is stock yamaha belt for a 2001 sxr500.

engagemant and peak where right on spec before ripsaw went on.

sled only has 2300km on it so i shouldnt be groovy yet.

when im goin that fast i dont have time to look at the dream meter. we use a gps with highest sustained speed in our jacket pockets.

ill see if kirikswim will tear down the clutches for me since he is the one pre-seasoning the sled for me.

ok im 1/2 way there. thanks to ulmer racing for returning my call.

as per vmj 500 setup in tec pages.
ordered 40 gram base weights from maximum performance (the easy ones to adjust), 15mm rollers, engagement shims, centre to centre and offset tool, and finally a set of ice scratchers.

just need the helix from dalton or advantage and we should be ready to giver a test when we get more snow. gettin antsy, in the shade snow made 24hrs here already once.

Maim,
How did you make out with your torque limiter.
I already got mine from Sled Pro. Now I see I have to remove the primary..OH OH.
I have a non adjustable on there now which I did not realize either.
Which clutch tool do you have, is it for offset and center to center.

im gonna have both when they come in. just orderd it today direct from maximum themselves ($$$) in new york. ill post to this thread when it comes in.

ok now we just waitin on the parts delivery ppl to get my stuff to me. got the dalton helix comin from my dealer since they wont deal direct with customers. now just waiting on our postal system. should i start prayin now?

Any tips on setting up a stock 99 Vmax500 for better trail performance?

Thanks!!!

you need to go to the tec pages. the set up im using came from there in the owners setup charts. its vmax jhons set up near the top of the page for vmax 500 or sxr500.

in your case all i think you need to do is get the helix he uses for the secondary and re-do your primary weights with the shims and rivets he recommends. new springs wouldnt hurt you either. there is a list of what came in you sled stock there too under yamaha clutching specs.

ok got my primary stuff in.

anyone have a reccomendation on where i should put the weight to start initally?

they are thundreshift 40 gram base with 3 holes. using 15mm rollers with 2 engagement shims.
