I have a spare YVX (Viper) primary clutch that I would like to modify for drag race use only. What I'd like to do is bring the engagement up without running a real stiff spring. Looks like it would be possible to machine the spider surface, that the moveable sheave rest's against. To get more weight tuck under.
Has anyone done this mod? I'm not sure how much material to remove.

call bob, or fred at lightning pro, they mod yamaha clutches. ski
Your gonna need to install a thicker set of split collar shims in the primary & then you want to put am engagement notch in the primary weights.

Thanks for the replies guy's. Turk, do the collar's need to be changed, to move the fixed sheave closer to the moveable sheave? Are the different collar's for adjusting sheave to belt clearence, OEM Yamaha or aftermarket parts?
