trail permit,michigan

Seems to me the out of state permits are for some kind of time limit... like 10 days or something... buddy from Wisconsin rides with us in the UP once or twice a year and always complains about the price of his permit.
 
We're from Ohio and we pay the same as the riders from Michigan, regardless of how many times we ride up there. Cheap price for prime riding as far as we're concerned.
 
yes its 25.00 for the whole season, pay it once and ride all year. I don't even really ride in wisconsin, pretty much just the UP, so i guess its well worth it for me ;)!
 
BUT, it sounds like us MI riders are getting abused by you out of staters!! I say we call the governer's mansion and introduce new legislation to make you guys pay MORE to ride on our snow... after all, it is OUR snow.... it fell in OUR state.... I'll bet Granholm would eat that up... more money in the coffers to spend on something other than trail improvements and upkeep. Really don't like that woman.... can you tell?
 
You need to have your sled legally registered in your home state and a valid drivers license as well... then just buy the $25 trail permit when you're there and you're good to go!
 
not to be cruel but, if people complain about a 25.00 trail permit they should just stay at home. trails are not made by the trail fairy, takes time effort and a lot of blood sweat and tears of just a few volunteers. we buy 3, count them, THREE ontario annual permits per year at a cost of over 150.00 ea u.s. dollars, plus our 3 michigan permits. if you have time to complain you have time to help. just my .02 ski

If you were aiming this at my buddy (mentioned a few posts ago) you should understand that he drives 10 hours one way to get to the cabin, sleds for 1 1/2 days, then drives home... twice a year.... mostly just to spend time with friends. I'd say he pays his dues for sledding... Like I said, it seemed to me that he was paying more than $25 for his permit. When I talk to him next, I'll ask him what he paid... he could be doint it all wrong for all I know. He is a paying member of his local club and pays his Wisconsin fees. Also, he finds a way to donate as much as he can to the trail fund when we ride (there are donation cans EVERYWHERE you stop in the UP). We all do. ;)!
 
hey! i would pay 100.00 to be able to ride in MI all yr.that is pretty cheap.when you consider where i live,if i dont join a club it will cost me 100.oo just to register my sled.or option 2 join a club (25.000 and pay 45.00 to register my sled.have you ever heard such a thing,being told to join a club or be punished to pay 100.00 for registration.Not that i am against clubs because i am not but,come on ny this is a little out of hand for general snow fall for 2 months of riding.i geuss i will be on ty more this winter,with this deal going down and the cost of gas going up...

All is true except for the valid licence. You do not need one. I have recently had my licence suspened, but still am able to obtain a trail permit. For the last years that I have rode up there, I have never been asked for my Drivers license obtaining a permit. I have even been stoped by the officials and was not asked for it then either. Only my valid reg. card.

Just my experiance.
 
But, if you license is suspended, Mighigan treats trails as roads when law enforcement is concerned. It's about time as there are waay to many drunk sledders out there. I was stopped 5 yrs ago and they did check my license. I didn't do anything, they were checking everybody on the trail
 
WI is thinking of going to the mandatory club membership or a larger reg fee, if I rember right my club sent me a questionare for this at the begining of the summer, the wife and I did the math and it would be the same cost that we pay now for Club membership and Reg. of the sleds. the MI permit is the first thing I do each year.


BTW - last year MI had it that you could buy it on line, are they still doing it and if someone has the web address it would be great.:rockon:

In ontario around here it costs 230(CDN) dollars for a trial permit. So we just go 10 km and ride in Minnesota. Only $16(US) for a permit there. Crazy in difference. The trails here in ontario are awful. Nobody takes care of them. Trails in MN.... AWESOME!

Sounds like a deal. I was under the impresion that the trails in Canada were great????? I have never rode in Minesota before. I heard they have a slight trail pass price increase if you are running studs. Is this true?
 
Hey 25 bucks is cheap. The trails in the UP have been comming along well, with improvements every year. Michigan is one state that I get checked often (especially aroung Wakefield) so make sure you get your permit. Yes minnesota is a good bargin if they get snow. Canada is good, but pricey. Some of the best trails I have been on has been in the UP and Wisconsin northwoods.
 
ya i think its like 5-10 dollars more if you have studs. Most of the trails in Ontario are awesome. Just in the town I live in they are in major debt. They dont take care of the trails, they just dont care anymore.
