OK please don't get mad. I know it's been covered before but I can't find it. I'm swapping out my 600 triple for a 700 triple (non power valve) and need to figure out where to start with the clutches. The motor will be stock and it has a 136" track with stock 700 gearing and 8 tooth drivers. Should I go a green or silver secondary spring? I'm using a 51/43 helix. For the primary I have a set of 8ca's and a set of 89l's. Which should I use and how much weight? How about springs? I have a g-g-g and a y-g-y. For rollers i have 14.5 and 15.6. Let me know what you guy think.

15.6 mm rollers, g-g-g primary spring, 8ca weights with 1st hole empty & a .8 gram rivet in the tip, 51/43 helix & green secondary spring at 70 degree wrap

the 8CA's have the same profile as the 8AB's so you wont have to get different weights, but you will have to run a little stiffer primary spring.
I screwed up on my post & put in 8ab,s rather then 8ca,s. The proper set up above is for 8ca,s.

Cool thanks guys. Turk, if you could run any set up with this combo, what would it be?
8ab with a 2.4 gram rivet in the tip, 1st hole empty

So the 700 set up is the same as the 600? That is the same set up I had in my 600 when it was stock. I ran 8ab's with 2.4 in the tip, 51/43 helix wrapped to 70* I thought the 700 would be different?
Sorry..i was 1/2 asleep Run 8ab with about a 2.4 inner & outer for starters..

Right now I think I'm going to try this. 8ca's with 2.4 in the first hole, 0.8 in the tip, 51/43 helix with a green spring wrapped to 70*. What do you think?
Way too much primary weight for an unpiped 700. You will be lucky to pull a .8 gram tip rivet with 8ca,s in a stock 700 single pipe.

So should I run the 8ca weights empty? What rpm should the 700 run at?

Run a .8 rivet in tip. Sled pulls hard at 8300-8600 rpm.....very wide powerband.

Agreed. My simons piped '01 had trouble pulling anything in the tip of the 8CA's with 14.5 roller and Y-G-Y spring, 52/44 helix with green spring. Would've need less helix to be able to pull anything in the tip.

I'm starting to get the feeling the the ca's aren't the best choice for my sled. What weights work best on a stock 700? Should I look for a set of 8df's?

8ab,s 8cr,8dn-20...used em all on stock 700,s with good results. The main thing I have discovered is that on a trail sled it ain,t the components that make a huge diff; it is just hitting target rpm,s with out slipping the belt.

What kind of weight were you running in the 8dn-20's? I've heard people are pretty happy with those weights. would they be a better choice over the 8df's? Sorry to be such a pain, but come winter I want to ride and not spend all my time tuning. Winters are getting too short here for that.
Thanks for all the help!
Thanks for all the help!
8df,s have the same shift curve just lighter. I remember clutching a 01 700 sx-r running 4.5 gram rivets in each hole with a 51/43 helix & rpm,s were just about perfect.

Yea the 8DF's dont work bad on piped sx 7r's, i ran them for quite awhile, decent all the way through. Make sure you run them with big rollers.

I think I'll give them a shot. My 700 will be single piped. Guess I'll see how it goes.
