what would be the biggest problem with putting a yamaha watercraft engine in a snowmobile. say a gp 800r engine, looks very similar to a snowmobile engine. other than mounting it what may i be overlooking. word has it that yamaha used watercraft bottem ends in there 800 twins.

srx1400 put a gp 1200 in his srx i believe it is bored out and all that good stuff. I got a chance to see it in person and hear it run oh man what a beast! Once its set up right that thing will scream! Not a bad idea but $$$$$$$

so much of the setup has to be custom. In the end it will be some HUGE $$$$$$, ask anyone who has done one. ;)!

I know someone that put a 650cc Waverunner engine in his Exciter, wow, did that thing ever scream! Took a lot of work and set up time, but what a machine!

gp800r was done to, by yamaha infact, chris vincents 2002 factory snowcross sled in the open class was watercraft powered. he needed the torque of it to compete with the doo's.

didnt know that about Vincents sled, good info Jr. :) any links/pics? I remember seeing his 97 sled at the show, hood was locked shut and they were watching carefully lol!

snopro, you could probably machine the end down to fit, I've never done it myself so I don't know, but anythings possible with the proper equipment.

03viperguy, ya was a watercraft engine in the viper in the back half of the 02 season, he won a race with it, but that was just 'cause hibbert and morgan got tangled up and off the track, he just cruised on by for the win.

the 97 sled Titus almost won the championship, the reason they wouldn't let you see under the hood was 'cause it was a prototype SRX engine under it.

no links or pics anymore I don't think, I'll poke around thru my old books tho, see if I can find anything.

ej the GPR1200 puts out 155..the newest EFI 1300 w/o powervalves runs 170hp...with tripples the 1200 is well over 200. There is alot of setup to one of these projects...including custom pipes and carbs...and they only rev 8500 with tripples and 7300 without.
