Fishtailing ???

What causes fishtailing? Once I get above 40-50mph and on the gas, the backend wants to whip back and forth all over the place. Not very confidence inspiring, as you may imagine. This was my first time out this year. Didn't have this issue last year.

This was on the lake, deep hardpack w/ minor bumps and some powder, on a a 96 vmax, stock, 144 studs, 6 inch carbides. Ski alignment seems to be OK. The track may need a little tightening... could this be the problem?

It could be that the limiter strap is 2 long causing you to right to much on the front part of the track or you have the limiter pull up to high and are riding to much on the rear of the track ...it will only feel that way in certain snow conditions.

generally this kind of problem is caused by suspension adjustments.
As MR. Sled has mentioned limiter straps not adjusted properly will cause this problem. You don't want your track to tight you want loose in the track. I have adjusted mine to where it was ratcheting them tightned slightly till the ratcheting went away. Check all your suspension parts you may have something that broke.
