How often du you rebuild your Ohlins?

I'm looking for a set of Ohlins for my Viper. I can't afford to buy them brand new so i'm looking for used ones.
I'm curious how often you guys rebuild your shocks. I know it depends how and where you ride. It's pretty expensive to rebuild them, that's why it would be nice to know "how long they will last".
 
They can last at LEAST 5,000 miles without a rebuild, snowtech had a set on an SX that they said had 10,000 on them and were still going strong. The durabilty of ohlins isn't matchable from the other manufacturers, they are VERY well built shocks.
 
i'll disagree...on my m-10 i put 1500 miles on and had the serviced...its a good thing...the oil was a mess...my 02
 
I agree with oldcat, they get nasty inside. Just because they don't loose there pressure charge, that dosen't mean there still good. Oil breaks down in a snowmobile shock because of shear, not because of heat. ohlins run a wierd like 7wt.-10wt. oil. If you run 5wt. maxima oil it will smooth up the ride slightly. On the second rebuid, with maxima you should be able to get 4000 miles without a rebuild, regular trail riding. I assume they were talking about a set of front shocks? they will usually last much longer because they don't take quite the beating.

I had a tad over 9k miles on my old 97 600sx with front ohlins and they still rode like they did the day I got it new from the dealer :)
 
I Use Amsoil 5 Weight Oil....i Also Had Put Them On The Shock Dyno Befor And After....with New Oil Fade Is Almost Non Existent...

Maybe it's best to rebuild them to be sure they will last the whole season. Too bad it cost around 500$ if i want all 4 shocks rebuild. But i'm sure they are a great improvement over stock.
 
I had trouble with Ohlins on M-10 untill I switched to Red-line oil. Never had problems with Ohlins up front, go figure. Also, why $500 for 4 re-builds? I would not pay $200 myself.
 
I have ohlins up front and an M10 with ohlins in the back for 3000 miles not a problem. I put 12000 km's on my 97 Vmax that had ohlins up front and didnt rebuild them once. Best shocks you can get. You just cant match the durability and quality.
 
03viperguy: Haha. No i don't have 4 ohlins, yet :) Going to buy them as soon as possible.

grapeape: I called an Ohlins distributor to know how much it would cost to rebuild the shocks. He said around 1000SEK (~130$), for one. I have not compared that price to anyone else.
 
Get ahold of Bruce at B-Line racing in Mn. He's very good, and reasonably priced. I'll look for his # for you Maxdlx
