what's a good set up for back yard lake racing?

Like the name says i need a good set up for back yard lake racing. When i say back yard lake racing i mean hold it untill you know. I have Stock set up I also have 8bu-10 on the way..
 
Stock weights(8dn-20) loaded at 4.5 grams each, advant-edge 48/40 helix with green at 60 degree wrap.
 
It will upshift nice and fast, and pull very good on the top end with that setup. What do you have for a track? Studs? Transfer rods? You know any racing like that is based HEAVILY on holeshot/traction.
 
well i have stock track with trasfer rods the ski's come off the groud and sit there till about 110kph...or 65mph. I also have porting and heads done.

I'm going to kick a little snowdust in your face here snowdust and stir up the pot a little. I've found the top end of the 8BU-10 weights to be pretty good on my '02 SRX. I think a lot has to do with your choice of helix and everything else (springs/rollers). I got a minty set up for a SRX last season from SRXMAGIC on this forum using the 8BU-10 weights. I had some great top end using those weights. Not trying to start anything here, just stating my experience using them, which was different than snowdust had using the same weight.

I know guys that have had good luck also using the 8DN-20 and 8BU-00. A lot has to do with the distance you want to run. The trick is finding what you're looking for in both the primary and secondary for your desired result. My vote for your backyard racing is using the 8BU-10 weights ;)!
 
8bu 10's have a lot of top end it's what the rest of your set up is my needle on my speedo use to go past 120 by about 1" with my trail set up.
 
They work good for me, 125 topend best to date. They actually have alot of force up top, more than 8dn-20's. you need to slow the shiftout with a low finish, helix angle. If you have a powerfull high rpm motor, you need that belt clamped tight for long lake runs! my sled used to run up to 110 and fall on it's face quickly. The rpm's stayed right where they were supposed to be! I thought more weight right, nope, low finish angle did the trick! topend belt slip? Talk to SRXMAGIC.
 
Oh great.. Everyone else had great luck with the 8BU-10's..lol I had them in a ported 98 SRX 700.. Hauck roller secondary...straight 45 degree helix... 4.5g in the tip of the 8BU's...I can't remember what spring.. Wrap was @ 90 degrees.. It was an awesome trail set-up, but for whatever reason it didn't have a real good top end.. I then went to heelclickers and it had just as good low end with a better top end.. That's all I was basing it off of.. I never thought I would have my name thrown in my face like that..:) haha
 
deeker buddy just run my set up the only thing I can't tell you is where to get a square helmet for those corner in your head. The secret is to go on a diet like me. ha ha.
