I was looking through the bluhm enterprises site and found this bulb "BL-43B100X" which was specified for "all yamaha dual headlights".

The stock bulbs on, say a 2001 Mountainmax are 60/55 watt. The BL- 43B100X" is 100/55 watt. The problem is that yamaha states that no accessory that draws more than 30 watt from the electrical system should be used, because it can lead to sled backfiring at wide open throttle. At high beam, the BL- 43B100X" bulb is 100 watts x2 (dual headlamp), making it draw
100-60= 40x2 = 80 more watt than the stock bulbs. This is way above the 30 watts you have to your disposal to begin with. If 80 extra watts is drawn from the system at WOT, the sled will backfire? How can they sell this, how does this watt thing work?
What am I missing here?

You should be fine with the brighter bulbs on the MM. I had 130/90 on a 97 sx 700 with no problems for 6 yrs. I have a couple PIAA vibration resistant bulbs waiting for my Apex right now...

in my dual beam when i had higher wattage bulbs(dont remember what they were)the lights were dimmer on high beam because it totally cut one bulb out to where only one would work on high beam.& on low beam they were both on but very very dim.they looked cool in the reflective plastic inside the headlight housing when the sled was shut off though because the glass to the blubs were blue.thats just my exsperience.

Thanks srxbully, that's what I thought. I'll just buy the 60/55 w ones then.

That is odd, the viper is supposed to have one of the strongest stator systems on the market 300W from the 18 pole stator

Kinger, but the bulbs draw an additional 80 watts when on high beam.. If I understood it right.. see post above

Srxbully, it doesn't mean anything, both the 2000 srx and the 2001 mm have the 300 watts systems. That dimming you mentioned was exactly what I was suspecting. Thanks again.
