Another Mnt Ski ???

I was all set to by a set of these skis but after talking to Kevin at Port Yamaha I think I have changed my mind. He says that the spindle sets so low in the ski that its possible that the back of the ski will hit the trailing arm causing steering lockup while going over a steep dropoff. Has anybody out there put a set on their Mountain Max and if so have you seen a problem?
Thanks

I just went outside and jacked up the front of my viper, pushed down on the front of the ski and it is possible to hit the backside of the ski on the trailing arm. While riding i dont know how likely it will be that this happens or if it will really lock up the steering, but it can hit. In my short 50 miles on the skis it never hit or even crossed my mind. Dont think it would be any different on a MM.

I have put 200km on my mountain skis so far.
they are great on the trail and unbelieveable in the deep stuff.
I rode some really rough terrain and they didnt ever touch the trailing arm and lock up.
One of my buddies also has a 2001 mm700 with yamaha mountain skis and he has over 500km with no problems

Thanks for the quick response guys. I think I will give them a try. It looks like the cost of changing over to the mountain skis will cost about 250.00 at Anchorage Yamaha,
This doesnt include handles or carbides. I thought I read that the old handles will work.
Simmons are going for around 430.00 up here. Hopefully I will save enough coin to buy a few toddies at the lodge.

I have 370 miles on an Attak with the Mnt Ski's installed, they work great in the deep and loose snow. Also no ill effects on the hardpack either. Great ski IMO!! Now if I could only get the back end to come up near the surface, the 1.25"x136" Ripsaw ain't makin' it. Will a 16" track work under this tunnel?

not with the stock drop brackets. the problem is the ripsaw. it just isnt good in the powder. get an intense or some other paddle with a 1.5" lug.

Do you think that the 136"x1.5" intense is enough to float the beast in 10"-20" of powder? (hoping not to have to stretch the rails, even though that is no doubt the best solution)( trying not to lose too much of the OEM trail manners)

what kind of powder? heavy stuff like the midwest? or light fluffy stuff like out west? the 1.5" would work just fine in at least 20" if its like the stuff we get in the u.p.

Northern Mi, and U.P. most of the time, 10-30F, you're right, powder comes in many forms.

What about C & A extreme XT.
richierich has those on his attak, they require a lot of effort, but corner great. im sure you could lighten the effort a bit with the limiter straps though.

im sure a 1.5" paddle would work awesome. i tried my 1.75" on my viper this weekend and it was great. hills, drifts and ditches could stop it and it took so little effort compared to my 121" ripsaw last year.

n2oiroc you runnin stock 9 tooth with the 1-3/4 track?
what model track?
8 tooth extroverts with stock gearing. i saw 90 on the trail. the clutching needs some work though. its at 8,300 out of the hole then creeps to 8,500 or 8,700 depending on the mood. the track is off a polaris rmk 99-2000 era. here is a pic.

Those paddle tracks are great off the trail but are vulnerable on groomed trails, ...I've already lost a few paddles off both my 1.5" and 2" tracks. I plan on installing 1.25 paddle tracks next season.

Hey AKMM, I'm in Fairbanks and have an 00MM and wondered if you ever put the mountain skis on your sled and how you like them and if you had any ride height issues.

No I havent bought them yet. Our snow is so sucky around here I have kind of lost interset. I have talked to a couple of other guys that have put them on and have had no problems and they really like them. Hope this helps.
