need some help adjusting my track

Just changed hyfax again. I loosened up my track to make sure i could get them on.. Well, i thought i had my track tension perfect with about 10mm of thread showing on my rear tension bolts. I ran the sled and my track won't stop going around at idle. I had to tighten it up till the track stopped spinning on it's own. I just put a new belt on about 400 miles ago. I don't know what is causing this problem. Anyway. Can some one give me the correct way to adjust my track for tension. I don't want to run it too tight or too loose. I am studded 144 down the center.. 02 viper.

Plus, i noticed that my outside lugs are tearing off of my track.. the sled is still under warranty, but i do have studs going down the center. But i know they are not affecting the outside lugs. What gives.

your track is spinning because your belt is most likely short...it has nothing to do with the track being tight or loose. What track do you have on and how fast are you going through hyfax???

i have the standard 02 viper track on right now. My sled is stock except for studs. I know absolutely NOTHING about clutching. But like i say, the belt is brand new. It's an 8DN i believe. Funny thing, my old belt seemed to work better than the new one. I top out at 93 mph on my new belt, higher on the old one. And it had over 2500 miles on it.

I am going thru hyfax pretty fast. don't know the exact mileage per set, but i would guess under 800 miles per set. I tightened up my straps to about 1 1/4 of just threads showing and it seemed to wear a little further down towards the middel of the hyfax. I have my FRA set in the middle, with the shock upgrade.

You need to add a shim to the bolts behind the sec (3 of them ) to get your belt to ride at the right height. (See your owners manual). Thats Also the reason you cant get the speed you need. You can just run it and let the belt brake in but the belt will take some time. The 8DN is a really great belt for wear.

Also if you are going thru hifax fast, the track needs to be as loose as possible along with pulling the limiter up.

I would guess your track is falling apart from hard corning on crappy trails or excessive hifax wear putting a ton of heat into the track clips and the fiberglass track bars that hold the track togather causing the track to delaminate.

thanks for the tips. I am going up north this coming weekend and won't have time to do anything to the clutch. I won't hurt anything will I? i hope not. I don't want to try to learn anything 2 days before i leave and screw something up..

I understand about the track, but i still think the stock yamy tracks are junk. AT least until this past model year. This even happened to my 96 and 00 sleds without studs and when we had plenty of snow.

everything should be fine, 400 miles on the belt it should start to sit in soon anyway....I am with you on the Yokahama junk...I have changed my tracks.
