i was wondering what was a good set up for grass drags is for a stock 98 srx 700 . i don't want to spend alot of money , i am going to race in the stock class and i want to beat buds. 1 has a 96 mach z ,40 over and clutch work.other guy has 2001 mxz 800 clutch work and maybe gearing
ps mine is stock other then 99 clutch spring (ywy) and 1.25 rip saw :rockon:
 
20/40 ish gearing, 135ish mains, bump the pilots, clutch for 81-8200 rpm.Stock clutching won,t even get you a sniff; huge overrev.
 
what do i do to the stock clutch to get the rpms down?
would a 68 L chain be fine if i droped 3 T on top?
i was going to drop 2 sizes on the mains but maybe i'll drop 4 and up 1 on pilots

You need to add about 16 grams to stock weights to get em to pull that rpm,s. Use bolts & nuts & watch spider for clearence. Use 8bu,s with about a 50/44 helix & silver secondary spring. Way better.
 
I ran 127.5 in 30 degree weather speed running 1000ft you can run 138 mains with big pilots in single digit weather.
 
what pilot are you guys running to go that low? usually for grass I'm around 130 with 55 pilots, 1000ft elevation, temps anywhere from 15*c to 35*c
 
yes run the same in all 3 I have ran 125's in 90 plus degree weather.I raced in most locations around 1000ft elevation.Junior I tried looking all over for my note book with grass set up's and speed run set up's to lake race set up's that I have I can't find it anywhere.If I find it I will let you know on the pilots I can't remember.I ran the air box also.

OOooook, ya with the airbox that makes sence, sorry I was thinking Pod filter jetting.

your pilots where probably 50 or 55, sled wont hold RPM on launch worth a shit outside that range.
 
I ran faster with the airboc over pod filters.I never ran the K@n's on a stock sled that I sold you but I know allen gained with them.

ya they're on a customers sled, I run a different style ones, round and angled, not the oblong ones, they can be funny, in some conditions they're worth big gains, in other conditions no change, and in some conditions they go slower.

b-350: ya, for 500' it's pretty safe to jet straight across, aslong as you're fat enough on the bottom you wont pop in that distance, for lake running tho I wouldn't recommend it, pretty much the only reason for it is for ease of jetting (same reason I run pods), when you're racing you have to jet atleast once a day, and sometimes more (if you don't get it right the first time) with pod filters and straight across jetting you can swap mains in 45 seconds running beside the sled while your team is pushing it to the line.
 
i race on the 29th,i will post the results for anyone interested.i decided to go with 20/40 gearing,50 pilots,135 mains(it around 10 deg here in n.s. i think i should go bigger?)air box on,still trying to get the rpm,s down.what about the needle,what clip position?
