The difference between SRX, SXR, V-Max ?

Hi everybody !.

I`m currently riding a 03 RX-1 ER that I bought last year, leftover from 03.
I`m only 20 years old and I`ve found out that the RX-1 is too expensive for me, had to take a loan and each month I`m struggling to get it paid.

Therefor, I`m selling it. But, I will buy a cheaper sled.

These are my options:

V-Max 700
SXR 700
SRX 700

I`m thinking of a 1998-2000 model.

I live in Norway and there are very few trials here (intended for sleds), so we ride everywhere you can say.

I`ve fallen inlove with the manouverability (spelling?) of a little sled with 307belt, but ofcourse now and then you get stuck but that`s just fun.

The clue is that we don`t ride in hard packed trials so I want a sled that can handle some powdersnow without getting stuck imediately. A sled with a short belt don`t like powder, but I know that. What sled (out of these three) are the best for a "overall" sled?. Who of them handle powdersnow best?.

My friends rides are: 1994 V-Max 4, 1996 V-Max 600XT and 2005 RS Vector MTN.

I have found an SXR Mountain, but I wonder how hard it is to manouver compared to an SRX/V-Max/SXR.

Well, if you're riding with a friend that rides a V-Max 4, then any of the models you have listed will stay afloat longer than your buddy in the deep powder. I would think the SXR Mountain you have found would suit your needs fine.
 
simply amzing.....nice pic man...bu ayways yea any of those sled will do.i have a vmax 700 and that doesnt do the best in the snow. i think its because of the clutching and i was runng stock track. i think the sxr is beter because it has the long travel i have the short travel which isnt good for any powder but on trails its unbeatable i love it

Ejcamaro, I guess my friend with the V-Max 4 tend to get stuck easier then me on my RX-1, but actually he rode everywhere I rode on the trips we made this winter.

Seanmurhpy26, glad you liked the pic, maybe I`ll post some more:). If the SXR`s rear suspension has longer travel, I guess it`s better in loose/powder snow. I`ve noticed that many sleds tend go "hang" on the "bootboards" because the rear end of the sled is too low.

Millinocket rocket, glad you liked the picture!:).

Timebomb & Ryanwillden, so you think I should go for a Mountain Max?. I weigh around 65kg`s and sometimes I feel to light to handle bigger sleds, like, I turn the handlebar and hang out on the side of the sled, but still it goes straight forward ;).

What about an SXR / V-Max 700 with 38/307/51mm belt?. Maybe change the gearing so that it pulls better / less top speed.

what do you think?.

Kimoaj, you can find a 2000 sxr 700 on www.autodb.no for about 30 000 NOK sometimes. Saw it a couple of times in the summer and autumn. A 2000 MM would cost you about 40-45K and a 2000 srx between 45 and 50. Good luck

Yeah, there are quite a few SXR`s and SRX`s, one V-Max700 triple and one MM. The MM has 7900kilometers on the clock, how much is this for an MM?. It`s a 2000 and he wants 45.000 for it. There is also an SRX Mountain, this has 10.000kilometers on the clocks,

WOW!!!!! Awesome, words can't express!!!! Makes Vermont look a kiddy slope. LOL. I wonder how much it would be to ship my Viper over so we can go for a ride. ;)! ;)! ;)! ;)!

haha jmahler . I bet you have some awesome views down there too. The only stupid thing is that it`s totally forbidden to ride sleds in Norway, unless it`s for work/purpose use. If you own the woods where you ride, it`s still illegal. Sick?.
If you come over you can borrow my old 1983 V-Max 540, it`s an awesome machine. (I`m not kidding !! ) . It`s in my shop right now for some service, welding the frame so that it might last a year more and adjusting the engine a few inches so that the variator belt doesnt go to hell when you hit the throttle.. .

The powerplant, Rotax 583 RAVE. It looks messy but it`s sweet to ride when it works!

Both in the southern part of the country. Don't be scared for the freight, it's just about 2-3000 kr.
For the ads you found:
For powderriding, forget the 98 srxM unless you want to mod it, it will bog in deep powder. Don't know about the 99 since the owner has modified, but 50 000 is still a little steep for the condition of the sled.
All sx/sxrs too steep in price.
I know of a much nicer MM for 45 000 that is in troms. Hes' ad is gone out of the autodb system but I have a copy of that very ad here at home.
Some other things to consider if you want to stay on the right side of 40 000:

Registration: about 2700 kr
Insurance: (Ansvar, which you must have in order to register the sled) at least 2500
Freight/shipping: ???? kr
Insurance when shipping: ??? kr
Service/ Parts: You don't want the sled to blow up for a little thing like dirt in carb(s) or faulty intake boots (rubber between airbox and motor).
That's what come up to mind now, just ask if you wonder of anything else.

Why is it not legal to ride sleds for recreation/fun? It is so beautiful out there, how else could you get out in that back country?
 
Thanks alot for the post Norwegian ! :). The 30.000 SXR ad didn`t say the milage, and when they don`t say the milage it`s often because it`s very high, I could be wrong though. The 40.000 SXR had a worn out belt.
I hope to find a sled that`s in "neighbourhood" , hehe, or not more then 10hours of driving. I saw that MM in Tromsø but like you say, it`s gone out of the Autodb system.

Another thing when buying a sled that`s far away, is that you wount be able to go look at it. Plane tickets are expensive. Then again, you don`t want to buy something you haven`t seen. So I guess the best is to find one that you go look at by car.

Sledboy, it`s not legal because the authorities (spelling?) think it pollutes too much and they are afraid that the nature will be ruined. Pluss there is the noise, damn ski tourists you know. There is alot of writing in the newspapers regarding snowmobiling and wether it should become more legal or not. It`s so stupid because all the nature freaks that are against snowmobiling, don`t know what nature is because the only way to see the real nature is to go there by snowmobile.

Well, we don`t give a **** about the law when it comes to riding motorcycles/snowmobiles etc. and we are not alone.

Price seems fair enough, very clean sled. There are a lot of RX-1s out on the market now so they will go dirt cheap, I've seen 03's go for as low as 65 000. I don't know whether that was with all dues (avgifter) paid. You got a valid point about looking before buying. A 10 hour drive from any direction will get you quite far, giving you a good range in which to find sleds. Also remember that in may cases, the seller is willing to meet you half way.
 
Heres a question or 2 for ya- in the states many riders trailer their sleds to the snow. Is it the same in northern Europe? What vehicles make a good towing rig over there? How will you get your new snowmobile home if it's not from the "neighbourhood"?

Yeah I think the price is fair, it`s basicall like new. The only thing that makes it look "used" is that there is some MINOR scratches on the footboards, but it`s not possibly to ride a sled if you can`t put your feet on the footboards hehe:). If you saw someone go for 65.000,- I bet they had more milage then mine, or atleast I hope so. Btw, Where are you from norwegian?.

Archer: Alot of Norwegians trailer their sleds to Sweden because it`s much more legal there. Until recently (last year) there where almost no limitations on sledding. However, now there is marked trials with speed limits and such. In Norway there is snow all over (normally) during winter, but I guess those who live in the south has to tow their sled somewhere to be able to ride.

Most guys put their sleds in trailers that they tow behind their "normal" car, and ofcourse many guys put the sled in the back of their pickup.
