center shock broken

Rode my sled tonight and it seemed to be darting around alot. Checked it over and found that the center shock was broken. It is broke right at the very end of the shaft where a cup is mounted. I just bought the sled this year and have only put 225 miles on. Would that be covered under my warranty??????
 
What would cause it to break????? It hasn't even been riden hard yet. I'm kinda disappointed.

Did that one last year. Sounds exactly like my incident. Except I rode it for a while and id started wearing a line tearing up the center of my track. I think it is just from riding hard. That was a tough $300 to spend to replace the center shock. Upgraded to an M-10 since :D
 
scooter, not sure what would cause it to break. i would try to get it covered by warranty. if they don't cover it i have one with zero miles on it since oil change and recharge 50.00 plus shipping. good luck getting it covered on warranty. ray
 
shock abuse

All it takes is to hit a rock or something hard just right to have the shock break, not impossible. If sled is new I would be surpised if Yamaha did not cover it under warranty.
 
ok here is the deal. Talked to my dealer today and the first thing he said was "What did you hit". I didn't hit anything so I've looked everything else over and can't find anything else bent or damaged. They want to see the sled for themselves. They thought there would have to be something else broke. This really sucks since we've now gotten about 13 inches of snow this week and my sled is broke.

You dont need to hit much to break a ctr shock, but I would also ck W arm and the lower bracket between slide rails.

Yam not designed for mogul mash--look atthe new ones...
 
Got my sled back, but the snow is melting. Dealer told me that I had hit something. There was marks on the skid plate so that was there reasoning. Anyway they warrantied the shock because they said it should not have broken anyway, and put it on also. They pulled limiter straps up tighter thinking that they were too loose and putting too much strain on the shock. They set the FRA on soft and put my Bender TS3 on max transfer. I rode it a few days ago and it pretty much sucks. Feels like the front has all the weigh on it. I've now loosened the straps up but don't know how much to go and put some extra preload in the center shock. Does this sound like the right thing to do??? The way the straps are right now they measure 1" of threads left with the nut also. Was wondering about the TS3 transfer rods not working as well as others?? Any thoughts on those as well??? Never have really been able to pick the skis up. Any help would be appreciated. I haven't been able to ride it since last adjustment since we no longer have any snow. Thanks
 
Go to the tech page it has a good section on how to adjust the skid .I would loosen the limiter straps some more ,but I like a soft ride .
 
I would not run the rods at max transfer. You are looking to bend/break the shock again, and possibly the w-arm. I just broke the w-arm and have bent the front shock before. It is mainly from hard riding, but running the rods at max transfer, only makes it worse.

Double check the w-arm for cracks. They happen about 1/4 of the way up the tubes (from the bottom). Could be hard to see.
