so you want to play with nitrous?????

I pitted right next to a kid with a honda... he ran EIGHT second quarter miles at 156MPH.... His buddie hooked up a laptop computer and they ran it on the jackstands.... He PUNCHED in something with his keypad,,, and BLEW THAT MOTOR TO BITS!!!!!!! 25 years at the GROVE and I've never seen a guy blow up a motor with a LAPTOP computer.... (till a few weeks ago).... Theres NO WAY ON GODS GREEN EARTH, would my Challenger EVER RUN an 8 second pass!!!!! This kid had a PRODUCTION 4 CYLINDER honda motor..... I have a Production 8 cylinder MOPAR BIGBLOCK!!!!! I will NEVER see 8 seconds!!!!!!good night!!!!
 

A motor COULDNT run with pure oxygen... You need the nitrogen to facilitate combustion.... i could explain it a lot differently than that "chemistry 101 " post,,, but,,,, They made their point.... The nitrogen in Nitrous doesn't do anything but HOST the O2 and keep it from coming apart..... Maybe Dilutes the O2 charge,,YES!!!!! If you ever see someone on a sled who sprays, you will also see a seperate fuel tank for the nitrous kit.... USUALLY 20 octane points higher.... THAT is the BUFFER or "headroom" that saves you from that "lean condition" that raises flame front temps.... REMEMBER BOYS AND GIRLS,,,, ITS THE DETONATION that occures that kills the motor.. it is the OPPOSING flame fronts that DESTROY your piston and throws your rods out the side of the motor..... Did you ever see a fuel motor after a pass????? Look at whats left of the rod bearings!!!!! Its the O2 that creates the deonation,, not tha NITROGEN and NOT THE FUEL (KINDA SORTA) The fuel has something to do with it.... Thats why they raise the Nitrous/ fuel ratio FATTER and 20 points MORE OCTANE!!!! Good night!!!! Gary Oles nosboy

NOSBOY, you race mopars up at the GROVE, then you probably know/or have seen a white 64' plymoth savoy, owned by Dave Barker, from Barker automotive. Not shure if he's going to the GROVE much anymore, last I heard he was going to BYRON alot. I helped him build that car years back. Nice Guy! I know What you mean about those LAPTOP racing machines, and it seems impossible they hold together!!!! Good argument, like to see people who are passonate about what they enjoy. By the way try this little experiment.... fill a ballon with pure acetalene from you torch, now attach a piece of tape masking tape to it, this is the fuse. light it in a safe area, and kaboom, you have a flame bomb. Now fill another ballon with 1/3 acetalene, and 2/3 oxygen, and do the same, but in a very safe place. make sure you garage doesn't have carpeting cause thats a bitchh!! point is pure oxygen and anything flamable ain't good!! the nitrogen is inert which helps slo down the burn by spacing out the molecules. it cools the charge "latent heat of evaporazation" as it evaporates.
If that wasn't good enough for you try a beach ball, but make sure your atleast 200 yards away from any windows..LOL As bevis would say.. HAha thats COOL!
Oh yea almost forgot, oxygen in your potato cannon will double your distance! more ain't better, just a smige.
Who would have thought the stuff old folks breath has so many fine uses!

I know exactly about the oxygen theory thing!!! People dont understand that its the 70% nitrogen that maks the oxygen do its thing.. We've been doing the acetylene thing with little tubes of nitrous from the cooking utensils store (they use them to charge whipping cream)... The BESTEST thing (bestest is a chicago word) is a 50 pound bag of 45-0-0 lawn fertilizer and a box of MR>BUBBLE!!!!! Blew a hole around 10 feet deep and around 50 feet around in the park one fourth of july!!!!! That was around 10 years ago, so the statute of limitations has run out and we can talk about it!!!! it really pissed off the Chicago Park District... they were fillling it up when we drove by the next day.. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! still to this day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know your friend with the savoy,,, but hopefully we will meet!!!!! There are a lot of fast mopars at the grove and ALSO A LOT OF FAST rice burners!!!!!! i don't know how them punk kids go 8 second quarter miles, but, I see it with my own 2 eyes!!!!! (I still get a rise when they blow them up!!!!) We are going to have to upgrade to a Keith black hemi to get into the nines,,,, so,,,, we'll just play here for a while..... Gary Oles nosboy

simply, the NITROGEN is the key to combustion.... without nitrogen, you would have an uncontrollable explosion... the motor would NEVER handle such a blast!!!! it's real elaborate and I haven't been in school in 20+years, so I cannot remember 99% of it... but... everyone thinks either its the nitrous, or the oxygen, or the timing, or the squish, or the octane , or the polish and port job, or the transfer port edgeor the piston skirt,,,,,etc,,,etc,,,etc,,, My point being, if you want to play with nitrous,,, don't spend your time with these WASTE OF MONEY KITS ON THE MARKET TODAY.... Without elaborating which kit is better and which one stinks,,,, Spend twenty dollars on the book (its probably only 5.00 ) and learn why nitrous does what it does and WHAT YOU'LL NEED to make the motor react the way you want it to,,, WITHOUT blowing it up or melting a piston..... I've went as far as teflon coated skirts and ceramic coated pistons, coated domes (high compression) and coated exhaust ports.... case porting and cylinder porting and polshing, adaptive strategy on the cdi box... coated pipes (custom made by mike Decker) (10,000 rpm).. and a zillion other goodies!!!!! I could have ran 8.50's ALL DAY if I didn't get into a pissing match with the NHRA!!!!!! BOTTOM LINE______________ THEY WON and I LOST!!!!!! There were a few other guys like Ed Ensor's builders that could DO THE SAME THING THAT I WAS DOING!!!!!! Nitrous racing on ASPHALT put a VERY BAD taste in my mouth.... I harbored a LOT OF RESENTMENTS for a LONG TIME!!!!!! I've moved on, and the sport lost a very valuable individual... ME!!!!! I was up and coming when NHRA stuck it to meg!!!!! She and I had some conversations YEARS BACK!!!!! She must have gotten paid REAL WELL ( I know she did!!!) Because she still to this day, won't talk about it!!!!! Calcium chloride and ammonium nitrate??????? Man am i getting old!!!!!! The lawn and garden people looked at us 18 year old punk kids with long hair smelling like reefer (with our bloodshot squinty eyes) and wondered WHAT THE HELL we were doing with 45-0-0 lawn fertilizer..... Usually people buy like 25-10-10 or something like that... I dont even know WHY they sell 45-0-0 fert!!!!!!!!!! Its just like ALL AMMONIUM NITRATE!!!!! Thank you CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM for teaching me CHEMISTRY and SCIENCE CLASSES in HIGH SCHOOL..... I put it to GOOD USE....KABOOM!!!!!! Gary Oles nosboy
