I,m considering buying a 2000 vmax 600 for the wife; what is the difference between a 2000 vmax 600 and a sxr600? I know the vmax has steel skis; what other differences are there?
Thanks Greg

the vmax has a more plush suspension for cruising, mirrors i believe are standard on the deluxes, taller windshield, electric start and reverse are more common. Basically just more orientated for cruising in comfort, whereas the sxr is geared more towards pounding and more aggressive riding.

That plush suspension includes bushings vs. bearings in some of the pivot areas and non-rebuildable, steel body shocks vs. rebuildable aluminum found on the SXr. Theoretically, the SXr suspension should be more durable and less costly to maintain but that all depends on how well the sled was maintained since its birth. Otherwise, the difference is as yamaholic describes.

sxr has wider bars, flatter footrests, and wider (in my experience softer) seat. my mom is a cruiser and likes the sxr better than her vmax, once the sxr was revalved it was NO contest. although the sxr had electric and reverse put on it for her, and both machines were bought by her new. my $.02

Omg i can't believe i forgot those things. Stamp me with the "donkey" tag ;):D

actually the vmax's had gas bag shocks, they are basically an oil shock with a gas bag at the end of the shock body to assist in bottoming resistance. For the most part the shocks behave as an oil shock.
